Ferreira quashes fans' moustache bid

Portugal defender Paulo Ferreira has quashed talk that his side would grow moustaches as a gesture of solidarity before (and during) the World Cup.

A Facebook group has been set up by fans in the hope that the Portuguese would grow their facial hair for the same reasons that Romania's squad all bleached their hair in 1998.

The group, titled Queremos a Selecção com bigode na África do Sul (We want the selection with a moustache in South Africa), has over 3,000 fans and some supporters were seen holding up banners during the 0-0 draw with the Cape Verde Islands.

However, Ferreira claimed Portugal would not be pulling such a stunt. ''I don't think so, I could never see myself with a moustache. It would only make us figures of fun,'' he told the Daily Mail.
