Hamburg - Ruud van Nistelrooy has passed a medical examination and is set to join SV Hamburg early next week from Real Madrid.

Van Nistelrooy will be in Hamburg on Monday to sign a contract until the end of the season with an option to extend the deal until next year, according to the reports.

There has been no official confirmation from the Bundesliga club.

Madrid are reportedly not asking for a fee for the 33-year-old Dutch striker who has hardly played since he suffered a serious knee ligament injury in November 2008.

Van Nistelrooy joined Real in 2006 from Manchester United where he scored 95 goals in 150 games. He was top scorer with Real in the 2007-08 season and scored 64 goals in a total of 97 games.
