Lord bless you Obama for bringing the Olympians to DC
So I've spent the past two days in DC. I apologize for how long this is gonna be lol
Okay I'll start with yesterday. My best friend and I got to DC around one. We went over to the White House since we had read the team was meeting with Obama around 3:30 to check things out. When we were standing at the fence in front of the South Lawn when security told us we had to clear the area. There was a gate to let vehicles in so figured that was where the Olympians would be coming in. As we were walking by a few tour buses, Travis tweeted a picture from inside the bus of the street I was standing on. So we rushed back over to the fence as they started pulling the buses in. We watch as some of the athletes start getting off the buses, I recognized a few but not enough that I knew their names. Then we saw Simon get off one of the buses and I started freaking out. I was in a daze bc then my friend says "Allie, there's JR." Omg girls, i wanted to freak out when I saw him. And then Jordan got off the bus too. This picture is super-blurry bc I was shaking over the fact the guys were a few feet from me.
We were both wondering where Travis was when he walked off the bus. He saw us and started waving so we called out to him and waved.
A few buses after, Louie, Greg, and Scotty got off a bus (dang Louie is so short lol)
And thennnn Shaun gets off the bus...that hair is even more glorious in person lol of course he's the only one not wearing the standard khakis and Olympic windbreaker. He saw us and waved too (dead lol)
So once all the Olympians went inside, we left for a while until we knew they would be leaving. Around 5, we saw them moving the buses to the other side of the parking lot so we walked around to the North Lawn. As we get there, a couple buses are pulling out onto the road. And then Shaun White just strolls out of the gate right in front of us, says hi to as he walks by (dead once again lol). Only Shaun would walk out into the pouring rain lol. Teamusa.org posted that the team was going to a reception at the Supreme Court at 6 so my bff and I hopped on the Metro and headed over there. As we walked around the back side of the Supreme Court building, we saw a group of the athletes walking down the sidewalk into the building. I was kinda bummed bc I figured the ST team had probably already gone inside. But then I saw Simon get off the bus, followed by Jordan, Travis, and JR. As they're walking towards us, I say hi to Jordan so he stops to talk, which prompts the rest of them to also lol. JR gives me this huge smile (the dimples were in all their glory). They were super sweet and loved that we had come out to see them. We didn't get pictures but a conversation with them was just as good
And today was fabulous. Apolo was speaking at the Cannon House building for part of his Ask Listen Learn partnership so I figured I couldn't miss the opportunity and went down to see him. It was a bit intimidating by myself, but it was fun. He and Dara Torres talked for a few minutes and then after that they did autographs and pictures. I didn't get to talk to Dara but I got to meet Apolo. He was so sweet and he smelled fantastic, but poor thing looked tired. I told him I've been a big fan since 2002 and he was really appreciative. He shook my hand when I walked up lol He was sitting down so I couldn't really tell how tall he is, but I had to bend over a bit to take our picture (he put his arm around my waist for the pic, eeep!) The Century Council people took the pic so I should hopefully be online Monday.
