Morning with Apolo (and a lack of potato tattoos, sadly enough)
So, the very very awesome ashanishilynn and I met this morning at Rockefeller Plaza for the Tuber-awesome (or something) potato thing with Apolo. I promise, it was way more rad then that makes it sound.
I'll have a full recap at my journal this afternoon if you guys want to check it out, but basically, a few of us were loitering on the steps overlooking the rink around 7-8am. We were trying to figure out how to get down to the rink (there are benches down there, but no one could direct us) but around 8am, a woman came over and asked if we wanted to be on The Today Show.
Which meant, she would take us down to the rinkside and let us hang out. SWEET. While we were waiting, Apolo and his dad and manager wandered around trying to find the way down and he looked lovely in a blue button down and jeans. But he went into the Sea Grill restaurant and we saw him a few minutes later wearing a white "I <3 WA Spuds" shirt, or something. Also, after my countless jokes that he's probably in there eating somewhere, we did, actually see him at the window watching all of us with a plate overflowing with food. It was very charming and funny.
Little did we know Charlie White and Meryl Davis would be skating on the Today Show. So we got to watch them, and then Tanith Belbin came over to watch, and it was all very random and cool.
Then, Apolo came out, and I guess there was only about 20 of us rinkside, but suddenly TONS of people surrounding the rink on the higher level and there was a lot of yelling and cheering and him being charming throwing shirts up at people, and then he came over to us twice, the first time, I just grinned at him, and he stared me down for a few minutes, then did this eye brow raised smile. That man makes wicked eye contact. And we all told him thank you for coming, etc, and he was really happy and grateful that we all came out there for him. And then ashanishilynn gave him an amazing picture she did, and he LOVED it, but that's totally not my story to tell but I was SO excited for her XD! and then we got pictures and talked to him a bit more, and he skated off.
So, I got pictures behind the cut, and I have a flip cam, so I took several short clips and spliced them all together so you could see him (and my shaky camera work, sorry about that)
But yeah, mission accomplished.
