Why did Spain lose?

Jun 17, 2010 11:42

I love and hate that football can affect my mood so much, and I'm still really upset about the defeat yesterday. I want to think that this is a blessing in disguise because it's only the first group match and we still have chance. If this had been a knock out round we would be eliminated already and not being able to learn from mistake. I want to ( Read more... )

I love the drawings.

I agree, basically. The defense needs to tighten up and keep on it's toes. I know thats probably hard when they're not always getting tested but they should focus. And Iker needs to stay in his box more and use his hands.

And we definately need players playing out on the wings. With the amount of possession and speed the team has, they can afford to spread out and cover the whole pitch. And someone needs to be up front with Villa.

And I love Alonso for his ability to shoot (and score) from distance. The others try to walk it into the net sometimes.

thanks!

Ya I forgot to mention the defense problem. We use both right and left back in attack, and leave the back vulnerable.

Aaawwww, you did a great job with this post ;D
There's another possibility more suitable to Spain's style and that they used yesterday maybe too late: two strikers up front, no matter how tall they are because shooting to get a header is not the usual way Spain attack, In fact Torres/Villa managed to break Swiss defense in the end by playing with their feet (although the shoots weren't fortunate). The main problem was to have a lonely striker against a defensive team, while you keep 5 midfielders.
If Spain were to try only with long shoots, they could have tried Llorente.

I agree! 5 midfielders-- both Alonso and Busquets are defense-minded, Xavi is deathly afraid to shoot, and Iniesta and Silva both did not have the best game yesterday.

This is worth reading, especially when it comes from someone like you who know the style of play.

Sorry for my poor English..

The probrem is that we don't have real wingers except for Navas. Unfortunately, Navas was isolated on the right because Ramos already got injured when Del Bosque brought him on.

I'm not sure about Llorente.. because you know what happened to Barca with Ibra last season. Del Bosque tried him in the match against Poland but plan B didn't work well.

Thank you!

That's true about Llorente. Sometimes tall players just can't seem to be at the right place at the right time.
