Captain America Screen Testing?
UPDATE: Add another name to that list!
February 24, 2010 - Something is percolating in the Captain America preproduction offices, that much is certain. Hot on the heels of this past weekend's rumor that TV actor Robert Buckley was narrowing in on the role of the Marvel superhero, a bunch of new names have cropped up today in connection with the highly coveted part.
The Hollywood blog that everyone fears and respects, Deadline Hollywood, is reporting that Marvel Studios and director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) are ready to screen test candidates for the role. And here's the group's wish list: Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), John Krasinski (The Office), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights, Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Michael Cassidy (Privileged), Patrick Flueger (Brothers) and Garrett Hedlund (Eragon). All except for Hedlund have apparently made a test deal already. Buckley, best known from One Tree Hill, is notably absent from Deadline Hollywood's list.
UPDATE: Could it be that the source of this news is backpedaling a bit? The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, which seemed to break this story within moments of DH, has updated their post to throw Supernatural's Jensen Ackles' name in the ring and to say that he -- who really seems perfect for the role if you ask us -- has scheduling conflicts like Hedlund, which is why they're not currently on the list to actually test. Additionally, Heat Vision says that "sources on both sides caution that an actor may not be found from the tests, which happened during Marvel's search for the man who would be Thor. For that movie, currently shooting in Manhattan Beach, the studio conducted several rounds of testing but found its star, Chris Hemsworth, out of left field."
