Ten-year-old Vancouver actress Melody B. Choi came back a winner last week from the Young Artist Awards in Los Angeles.
Choi won best supporting actress in the kids-only awards for her role opposite Paul Gross in the B.C-filmed comic western Gunless. Competition included actors from the feature films Blue Valentine, Tooth Fairy, and Mother and Child. The awards were handed out March 13.
Says her mom Barbara: "When she heard her name announced, she bolted from her seat and ran like I've never seen her run, saying to herself along the way 'oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!' Melody wore comfortable leather flat ballerinas just for the purpose! She was so happy, excited and at the very same time, very cool & collected when she gave her very well spoken acceptance speech."
Other winners included Will Smith's son Jaden for lead actor in The Karate Kid and Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfeld for lead actress in True Grit.
