I actually really love the original song, but I like Kris's version much better. I loved him on the piano in this one, although from what i remember, the piano was in sort of a weird spot. Either way, he sounded fantastic on it and I love the studio version. ALSO I CAN'T PICK FAVORITES AND THAT'S WHY I'M DOING SO MANY.

The live performance I thought was really good, but I was so enraged at the "competent" non-critiques that the judges gave him. I think they picked this song on purpose because it was so close to what Kris probably would have done himself.

A fresh take on the overplayed original. He didn't change it up much, which was good because it made us appreciate Heartless so much more. Plus, it showed that he can sing a song straight without needing to rearrange it, which is actually pretty rare for him.

So I live under a rock and had never heard the song before, so I wasn't judging it against anyone else's version. I thought there were a few problems with the higher notes, but it was still a very good performance, and couldn't understand why the judges were to reluctant to give him any credit for it.
Okay, so can we talk right now about how Simon defended him against what Kara and Randy were saying to him, and how unfair they were? He gets a lot of knocks for his critiques of Kris this year, some of them deserved, but he really stepped up here. And he was right-Kara picked that song with something specific in mind, and she should have communicated that, because then Kris probably would have said, "yeah, that's what I'm doing for my other song" and we wouldn't even have had that dumb conversation. Also? I don't know that Apologize is a great song for being stripped down and played on the guitar. There isn't that much actually going on in the thing to begin with.
