I had kind of mostly given up on watching this season until I read somewhere that Kris was singing this song for Movie week. It made me watch again, and it was so beautiful. It wasn't a perfect vocal, but I don't know if I have EVER been so moved by an AI performance. It just totally got to me.
After this song, no other contestant had a chance with me.

This one is so moving. I think that's what eventually made me fall in love with Kris as a singer as well (music-wise I was strictly pro-Adam for the longest time).

I didn't really know the song. I had probably heard it once during the Oscars but that's it. Kris made me fall in love with it and watch the movie. Made me cry too. All that equals undying love for Kris.

I'd never seen Once (and still hadn't) so I didn't really know the song. At the time I liked the performance, but was more imprssed with the choice of song than anything else. But I found myself rewatching this one over and over on my DVR, more than any other performance. There's just something about it that pulls you in.

I was sitting at home, waiting for the 6pm airing in our country, when one of my RL friends made it her status in Yahoo!Messenger that Kris was going to sing "Falling Slowly". Oh my fuck. I nearly had a conniption. I didn't ever think this was going to be sung on Idol. And to find out that my favorite contestant of the season was going to do it? I flailed. Endlessly.
Everything about it was beautiful, even the imperfect notes. Screw Randy and his inane comments; and Simon's only shining moment for me this season was his "Brilliant" during results night. I still get all giddy and flail-y when I remember that Kris sang it. Studio version? Love it to death. I got so used to it that when the Glen/Marketa version came up on my iPod, I got all disoriented.
Falling Slowly is the gift that keeps on giving - I love that he sang it three times during his homecoming; that they used the song in his homecoming video; and I really hope he sings it on tour.

i love this sfm. my favourite idol song from him. it's just so beautiful and well-sung and his voice suits the song so so well. and he puts so much emotion into it and means it and... i am now listening to it purely because of this thread.
also i love the backing music on the studio version. on idol they screw up backing music sometimes and ruin the song, but with falling slowly they kept it subtle and perfect. so yay them!

This melts my heart. I have no clue what song this was as I did not watch Once before in my life. But man, he made me want to watch the movie and I just fell in love with him. I mean, Ain't No Sunshine totally blew me away but this one just blew me away, hurricane sort of way. Okay, I'm not making any sense at all *sighs*

I was literally squeeing at the end of this performance. I've never watched the movie "Once" but the song had come up several times in Pandora playlists so I was very familiar with it, and it was beautiful and heartfelt. You could feel every word he sang...and I love the way he sort of let the last word float up and away, ahh!

OMFG
I didn't think anything would top Born To Be Wild that night but I shocked all my hardcore Glambert friends by saying that Kris was EASILY the best that night. He was so into the song and just completely on a different level when singing it. I felt like he meant it ... its gorgeous and the studio version is amazing THIS was the night I actively started rooting for Kris to stay in the competition and the night I really started wishing for a Kradam finale

To be honest, the first time I saw the performance, I was kinda "meh". After rewatching it and really listening to the lyrics, not only did I fall slowly for this song and for Kris, I fell hard.
Re: f7a - Falling SlowlywheresmythingJune 21 2009, 14:31:16 UTC
I laughed when the judges called it obscure, because I knew it had won an Oscar, and I used to have it on my comp before my HD imploded. And I live in a musical vacuum, so if I've heard a song, it's probably not obscure.
It was definitely the standout of the night for me, even with Mad World, which I also loved.
(but even then, I still wasn't fully on the Kris train... lol me)

This was the week the show really became only about Adam and Kris, when my feelings about Gokey went from "eh, he's not doing a thing I like but he's doing it well" to "my god could he be more of a cliche" (the hate didn't come until Renegade). Brilliant, brilliant choice, again.
(Though I'll admit I was listening to Elliott Smith this morning and wow, what if he had picked Miss Misery? God, or whateverthehell Aimee Mann song got nominated from Magnolia? You know, the two songs that lost to the Titanic song. And if you haven't read Let's Talk About Love you should, per our previous conversation.)
