Kinda random but is anyone else annoyed by all the WGWG crap? Seriously..If the guys were any other race, no one would dare bring it up or make a big deal out of it.
Maybe because they're actual singer/songwriter/musicians instead of just a voice that'll end up only ever singing someone else's song? If the last four winners were all Asian would anyone be pointing that out? Or if they were girls? Probably not. Double standards abound.
I think if the last four winners were all Asian, people would definitely be pointing that out. If they were all girls, people would point that out too. And it's not just that they win every year, it's that a lot of the time they're advancing forward over people who are generally considered to be better, obviously better, or at least arguably better. (PAUL? PAAAAAAAUUUUUULLL?) The point is that Idol's core voting block clearly favors specific kinds of contestants, and the biggest one in the current years is apparently mellow white guys
( ... )
it's really annoying because i loved him on Idol, and i think his voice is seriously amazing, but i find his sound on the latest album and this song to be incredibly dated power ballad/rock, which is basically my least favourite type of music.
and his melodies are just not catchy imo, except for a couple that work in a weird way.
the only song on the latest album i was really excited for was Paper Heart, and then they totally killed the awesome opening guitar bit by making it all lame and acoustic and blended. absolutely ruined the potential.
I really am sad that he's without a record deal now and I do hope he does better because TLM was miles better than the first album but all I can really say right now is, yum pretty Cook is pretty
It's a bummer that he lost his record deal. I feel that he's got so much talent and potential, but just hasn't hit on all cylinders. Oh, well. Still love him and will support him as long as he is making music.
I hear what everyone is saying about the WGWG thing on Idol. I do tend to focus on the singer/songwriters on the show because I like those kinds of artists and I feel like they are more likely to make music I will listen to after Idol. Unfortunately, many of the singer/songwriters that make it through on Idol and hang in there are the WGWG contingency.
And although I do like Phillip, I feel like Joshua should win - he is such an emotional singer and it really resonates with me.
