STEVEN Tyler will join the judging panel on America's biggest music talent show next season, a source close to the Aerosmith frontman told E! Online today.
Tyler, 62, landed the coveted spot on American Idol's 10th season after weeks of speculation, it was reported.
Jennifer Lopez had been rumuored to be in the running for a spot but "her demands got out of hand" for the show's executives, People magazine reported on August 11.
A source told the New York Post that Shania Twain was also under consideration but Fox had no comment about negotiations with the country music star.
Founding judge Simon Cowell left the show after nine seasons and Fox announced in July its rookie judge, comedian Ellen DeGeneres, will not continue after her one-season stint.
No announcement has been made if remaining judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi will stay on but reports have suggested that DioGuardi will not return.
Tyler is on tour in North America with his rock band. One of his bandmates was less than encouraging about the singer's television plans during an interview in early August.
"We're told it's a done deal," guitarist Joe Perry told The Boston Globe. "If Steven is committed to a TV show that kind of affects the rest of us. We'd like to plan our lives, ya know?"
