Idolatry: A Lee DeWyze surge, a Tyra Banks Twist, and a bit of season 8 longing on American Idol

Yay new Idolatry.

After 11 weeks of live performances in this ninth season of American Idol, the show and its participants decided to shake things up and offer us some alternatives to the overarching “Crystal! Crystal! Crystal!” story arc: Kara DioGuardi compared Casey James’ vibrato to the sound of a bleating lamb. Simon Cowell gave his best Tyra Banks speech to Lee DeWyze. And Crystal Bowersox herself channeled a little Eric Cartman. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but with only three weeks left before somebody’s at the Nokia covered in tears, confetti, and Big Mike’s biceps, my cohost Missy Schwartz and I were feeling a little punchy ourselves. So press play below and experience our farewell to Aaron Kelly, our nostalgia for season 8, and some tangential talk about Chris Daughtry, bad vests, Tim Urban, Jan Brady, and The Artist Sometimes Known as the Glassblower. [Related: Kris Allen on the controversy over his new single, 'The Truth,' and those added Pat Monahan vocals; and to get all my Idol news and commentary, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak.]
