Late night mod post? You know this is gonna be good.
HI BENCHES.
Ngl, this post is gonna be a long one. But I really hope you take the time to read it all, it's relative to everyone's interests! Your fascist mods have been working hard the past few weeks and we are proud to finally announce that we are working with the Livejournal team to celebrate our one year anniversary next week!
What will this entail? From May 10-17th, we will once again be featured as a homepage spotlight on the Livejournal main page! We will also get another shoutout at news for all of the buzz we've created in the American Idol circuit the past year, and our extensive philanthropic work.
We are also planning on having a fun post for you guys every day that week. We haven't completely figured out all of the details, but this may include an Idol Music gifting post, another tour re-watch post, an ontd_ai appreciation post, etc. (we have not 100% figured out what we are going to do each day, so if you have any fun ideas, let us know!).
FIANLLY, you may recall late last year when we got in a bit of trouble for Trollflakegate. Well, it looks like LJ has forgiven us, because the Livejournal staff has asked us to have a contest to create our own ontd_ai vgift, with all of the proceeds going towards a charity of our choice!
We encourage any and all of you to make a submission to our contest! However, we do have a few rules and must comply with LJ's Terms & Agreements. You MUST follow the rules and instructions if you would like your vgift to be considered:
- We have decided that since we want to represent our community as a whole and not individuals, we will not accept submissions of a particular Idol, ship, or otherwise (i.e., it can't be a stickfigure drawing of Kradam or a Kelly Clarkson lyric or a David Cook gif).
- Furthermore, we ask that the vgift not be about a small representation of our comm (i.e., one about Otters).
- We strongly recommend that the vgift is an animated pixel creation, drawing, or text based. That being said, it must be your original creation.
- If you have to use a real photograph, you must be the owner of the image.
- The content of the vgift must be G-rated and must not contain anything offensive, pornographic, homophobic, racist, sexist, etc.
- You are allowed to enter as many vgift submissions as you would like.
- Images must be 212x212 pixels (100x100 for the thumbnail) and 96 dpi. If you submit something over the requirements and we notice before the contest is over, we might remind you once, but we will not edit them for you or continually remind you.
- The vgift should have a white or transparent background. It's not a complete dealbreaker if it's not, but we are trying to keep ours consistant looking with LJ's pre-existing vgifts.

We do want to give you free creative reign on this, but we highly encourage our vgift to be something that represents all of us, like an animated bench or blinking text of a beloved tag. At the end of the day, this is a special opportunity that we are lucky enough to have - we don't want to turn this into anything else other than FUN.
You can start creating your vgifts right away, but we will not make a submission post until tomorrow - so please wait until that post is put up before you give us your entry. We will accept submissions until Saturday, May 8th at around 11PM EST (this may be extended). Each of the mods will choose ONE vgift each that we feel represents ontd_ai well, shows creativity, and follows all the requirements. From those seven, and an extra wildcard spot, we will allow you to choose the ultimate winner in a poll starting Monday, May 10th (if this sounds confusing, don't worry, it'll make more sense along the way. We just want to reassure you that we are trying to make this as fair as possible and you WILL have the ultimate say in determining the winner).
As far as to what charity we want our vgift money going to - we kind of have free reign (quote from LJ: We always prefer if the charity has a somewhat international reach, but it's your baby, so as long as it's not a fund to help poor kids in texas get free access to porn, we're cool.). We have obvious contenders such as UNICEF and Donors Choose, but if you have any more ideas, feel free to leave them in this post! We will take the organizations that seem to have the most interest and can allow donations from LJ easily, and then make a poll to decide the ultimate winner for the charity.
So anyway, that's the gist for what's going on in the near future. Please bear with us if we end up with an influx of extraneous modly posts this week - we just want to make sure that you guys are well-informed of the vgift contest process!
