Feb 08, 2010 14:07

One of my favorite radio shows about the entertainment industry, The Business with Kim Masters, recently did a segment where they went behind the scenes of American Idol. If that's of interest to anyone, you can download the podcast for free on iTunes or directly from KCRW's website. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, so I cannot say ( Read more... )

TY! This podcast looks interesting. I already subscribe to several NPR podcasts so this one will fit right in. <3

ETA: AI talk starts at about 7:00. She talks with Greg Gelphant, the associate director, about his role on the show.

16:00 brief talk about Mad World going long

23:00 They talk about David Cook and how they discovered that the amp wasn't working for him once about 5 seconds before air so he had to sing without the guitar. They didn't say which song that was. They also talk about Brooke starting over and Ryan messing up a cold open.

Some talk about how the clips at the end are from rehearsal.

Captain obvious statement, talking about choreography for the finale, A lot of them can't dance. They're not dancers they're singers.

Well I couldn't be home for it so I taped it on my DVR, only to come home and find out that it cut off during the goddamn commercial. I checked youtube but it wasn't up yet so I had to go to bed pissed off. I watched it on youtube the next morning. Basically, the judges talked too damn much. The next week they only allowed 2 judges to critique each performance so they wouldn't run over.

Oh, ouch :(. People must have been pretty pissed off! I downloaded the episode a day or two later and I usually skip anything that is irrelevant to me, and I wasn't reading news, so I missed it. Thanks for explaining, though :)

Yeah, people were really pissed. I was one (mostly pissed at myself for not setting my DVR to go long).

Plus the big headline from Idol that night was "SIMON GIVES CONTESTANT A STANDING OVATION." So we knew it wasn't just any performance. I stayed up well past midnight trying to find a decent youtube. It was ~unpleasant.
