I didn't think the the accent was bad at all. I hear worse on a daily basis... and my accent when I speak Spanish is atrocious.
I wish the interviewer had done more than just read a question and let him answer then repeat with an unrelated question. At least he let Adam talk, though.
That's the good thing about the Finnish culture - we don't do small talk, so in a situation such as this the interviewee will indeed get to talk! However we can also come across as terribly rude at the same time.
You're right, and I noticed the lack of response to what he was saying as well. It's like being on the phone and talking on, and not knowing if the other person is even still there because they're so quiet. Super annoying, even in this culture. :P
Well, there's 'small talk' and then there's asking pertinent follow-up questions; I mean, Adam was giving emotional answers like talking about a lover opening up his heart and then the interviewer was just jumping right to another question. I wonder if his English maybe wasn't good enough to handle follow-ups.
Totally. In a face-to-face interview it could've worked, because there could've been visual responses to what he was saying, but on the phone it has to be just unnerving!
I KNOW, I kind of want to let him know somehow we are not a country of robots!
I need to find one and move there! People think I'm rude because I just walk up & start talking about business without preamble and then don't bother to say anything encouraging while they talk.
