IT'S A FINNISH THING. WHEN WE LEARN ENGLISH AT SCHOOL, WE'RE TAUGHT TO BE EMBARRASSED ABOUT OUR ACCENTS.

Yeah, in general if a Finn doesn't like to speak English it's likely more because they're embarrassed about their accent, not because they don't know the language.

it is kind of sad. especially how we're the complete opposite when it comes to foreigners speaking Finnish. we're just thrilled that they're even trying, never mind your accent, etc.

but being overly self-critical is totally a Finnish thing.

I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYONE WAS COMMENTING ON THE ACCENT EITHER. FOR ME WHAT WAS EMBARRASSING WAS THAT HIS ENGLISH WASN'T QUITE GOOD ENOUGH TO DO FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS.
