A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR SEASON 8.
HOLY SHIT IT'S ALMOST TIME FOR SEASON 9!
THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!
Hey guys! Well, most of you are aware that season 9 starts on Tuesday! I know it's a mixed bag of emotions, but for those of you who are tuning in, we want to make the experience to flail and gossip to be as fun as possible so this is how it's going to work! (note: this plan is subject to change depending on how things go. Please bear with us in the first few weeks, if we notice things need adjusting, we shall do that!)
It is very important that we keep things spoiler-free for all of our watchers so we are going to have two separate viewing party posts on Idol nights. For the first week or two, mods will be making them, until we have a better feel for a permanent plan for the rest of the season. After that, we may enlist a volunteer or two to make the posts!
Our tentative plan is for an east coast party post that starts at 8PM EST/5PM PST (or whenever the show starts, cause I think later in the season they'll start at a different time? idk). So for you east coasters/central timers/people that want to F5 for spoilers, freaking party it up in there and break lj and all that crazy stuff or else someone is going to drug your drink, okay?
And then at 8PM PST (or again, whenever the show starts for us) we will have a separate West Coast party. If you're not on West Coast time, you can still flail with us, but PLEASE, PLEASE do not come in just to spoil things. This will get you in a lot of trouble. Trust me. Two of your current mods are west coast hoars that don't enjoy spoilers so we will scare you out with Clay spams. DO YOU REALLY WANT THIS?
Depending on Captcha reaching/excitement level/etc, we may have a big ol flail party post when the West Coast viewing is over for everyone to shake and cry and gif spam together - we'll see how it goes!
ALSO...for consolidation purposes, we are NOT allowing individual "this is what I think" or "review of episode blah blah blah" posts. Sorry, but it's just going to get too cluttered if we have 23849348734 people making individual posts about your very unique and controversial opinions. If the review is from a professional source or a blog like Idolatry, that's fair game, so don't worry about that. Otherwise, please post your individual insight and commentary as you watch along in the party posts! However, when the "real" competition starts, if you go to a taping, then you can make your own "experience" post. Other than that, we would rather be the anti-americanidol if you know what I mean! (NOTE FROM ODONTV: [IF YOU DISOBEY] I WILL FIND OUT THE THING THEY HATE THE MOST AND I WILL NOT LET A SECOND GO BYE WHERE THEY DO NOT SEE IT. I WILL GET A GIANT ASS LIZARD AND I WILL LEAVE IT IN THEIR BEDSHEETS. I WILL INVITE THEIR PARENTS TO JOIN LJ. I WILL CHANGE THE HEADER TO A SIGN THAT SAYS "INSERT USERNAME HERE" IS A LOSER WHO MAKES STUPID RANTY POSTS THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT AND THINKS THEY'RE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THEY REALLY ARE. I WILL BUY THEM A BOX OF POPSICLES AND TAKE OUT EVERY FLAVOR BUT ORANGE. I WILL SEND THEM TO A TURKISH PRISON. I WILL MAKE THEIR HAIR AND FINGERNAILS SMELL OF SOOT AND POO.).
As a courtesy for our tivo'ers/international watchers, we ask that you do not post anything spoilery outside a cut, or in comments of ANY post without a severe warning/white text, until at least 24 hours after the episode airs. Please review chancetosay's post about spoilers for a refresher. We're taking this quite seriously now that the season is officially underway!
If people can not follow the rules, and we start getting posts with spoilers outside the cut, individual review posts, or other really not cool things, we may do moderated posting on Idol nights. Think about how annoying and sad panda that will be for your fuck captcha and insomniac needs, and just follow the rules and it'll be good times.
Cliff-notes because I know you lazy hoars won't read the tl;dr in the cut:
- East Coast party post as soon as the episodes start for those hoars
- West Coast party post as soon as the episodes start for them hookers
- No individual "hey, I am so cool, this is my opinion on why this episode can suck my balls!" posts or we will spam you with Constantine and then some.
- Spoilers will get you "Scream On" auto-play spammed when you least expect it. Wait at least 24 hours for the rest of the world to catch up before you spoil things in comments/outside cuts.
- If you can't follow the rules, make your own ranty posts, and/or insist on spoiling things for everyone, we will do moderated posting on episode nights. Seriously.
- Your mods are good times.
So, here's looking foward to a flail-worthy season. It's going to be the first full season with ontd_ai. Let's make it an epic one!

EDIT: We have discussed it further and we will likely have a big, free-for-all srs bsns discussion post for each episode the day after it airs, so all time zomes can be included. The time the discussion posts will be made are TBD. That way, you can have serious discussion, commentary, speculation, conspiracy theories, etc. for each episode, because we know the party posts will be fast moving and full of flail and it'll be hard to have legit conversations with people. This will also hopefully curb discussion in OT posts and otherwise, so that members won't be spoiled. Thanks for the comments so far, guys!
