Kris Allen And Allison Iraheta Talk "Billboard's New Years Eve Live" On Fox
NV, Las Vegas (CNS) - A year ago today, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta were complete unknowns. Cut to a few months later and the 24-year-old acoustic crooner and the 17-year-old hoarse-throated redhead have millions of fans and television viewers voting for them to the top of "American Idol." Allen took home the title, Iraheta came in fourth, but they are both winning with great reviews for their just-released debut albums, Allen's self-titled effort and Iraheta's "Just Like You."
They've also scored some major television appearances, like "Billboard's New Years Eve Live" on Fox, which is hosted by Carmen Electra and also boasts appearances from Eva Longoria and Kim Kardashian. We caught up with Allen and Iraheta as they talked about performing their new music and New Year's Eves past.
CNS: You two will be performing live from Las Vegas on "Billboard's New Years Eve Live" on Fox. What did you do for New Year's last year?
AI: Umm?all the past New Year's Eves I've had is just our huge-ass family eating our faces off until the next morning. Yeah.
KA: Last year, we had a party at my house on this small deck on the roof. There was like 45 people at my house. We had sparklers and somebody's pants caught on fire. That was pretty scary.
CNS: Between radio station concerts and now this TV special, you guys have actually been performing a lot together. Did your record label put a buddy system in place for the two of you?
AI: No. (laughs) We just happen to be around at the same time.
CNS: You two earned fans with your covers of songs on "American Idol." What's it like now getting out there and performing your own material?
KA: For me, that's the reason that I tried out for American Idol. It wasn't to go up there to sing a bunch of cover songs for millions of people. It was to hopefully get the chance to make music of my own. That's what we're both getting to do now.
CNS: I might get you guys in trouble with each other with this question. What is your favorite song on each other's album?
AI: On each other's album? Uh oh. I still really love "Like Like We're Dying" but I love "Red Guitar" too.
KA: Thanks. Thank you, Allison.
AI: Yeah.
KA: What was the one you helped write? I really like that one.
AI: "You Don't Know Me."
KA: I don't know you.
AI: You don't know me.
KA: I don't know you. But anything that involves you writing, Allison, I like it.
Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta perform live on "Billboard's New Year's Eve Live," which airs Thursday, December 31st at 11pm on Fox.
