Sacramento Concert Review

Jul 11, 2009 00:29

I may ramble a bit. Just a warning. I'll try to pour out all my memories.

I basically got tickets for the Sacramento show about a week before, so I got tickets up high in the upper level of the stadium. The seat was about at the corner so I saw the front/side of the stage. I went with my mom. We are both Adam, and Allison fans. This was our first concert ever.

(Forgot: I made a little name tag sized "ontd_ai" sign, glued silver glitter to it and taped it to my shirt. I felt very official. I also brought along opera glasses to better see since I would be so high up.)

We live about two hours way from Sacramento, so we left around 2:30 to make it there by 5:00. A hot car trip later we have located the parking lot. We had arrived a little past 5:10 I think. there was still plenty of parking, and I saw people (mostly young ladies) just sitting in the grassy areas. We wandered closer to the building in hopes of finding a line. We found a collection of about 30 people around the ticket building, so we stayed there for a while to kill time until the doors opened at 6:00. There was a man with a large plastic bag selling the tour books for 25$. We didn't buy any. After about twenty minutes of milling around, a security man on a bike came over to direct us toward the place we should line up.

We moved to the place over on some stairs, and waited until 6:00. (forgot to say: In the line at the stairs, a couple girls walked by, maybe twins, and they were wearing twin white shirts with black print and glitter saying: GLAMBERTS FOR LIFE. I was pretty weirded out seeing a glambert in real life. Also I saw A LOT of black, and a lot of positive talk about Adam. Maybe a few wearing green/plaid. I noticed one group in particular was carrying an "I <3 ANOOP" sign.) Then we were allowed to line up near the doors. There were two lines, and after some more redirecting, we were let in. Mom and I were near the front. There were all kinds of stands to get food and cocktails. Even Dreyers ice cream and subway. Since we were about dying from thirst, we bought some soda to sip a bit, but not too much since we didn't want to leave the concert while it was going on or during intermission (which was busy as expected).

After wandering around a bit, we found our section (207), and climbed up the stairs. The stairs and seating were all pretty steep and high. I have a fear of heights, so I had a few moments where my heart was pounding and I had to focus on calming myself down once I reached my seat. We were in row Q, so that was quite a bit of time where I was having high anxiety. (I focused on the music videos, and felt calmer. I was completely fine by the time the Ford videos started playing.)

They were playing three Carrie Underwood music videos, one of Chris Daughtry, and one of David Cook. The stands were slowly filling up with people. An older woman and her husband/boyfriend were on my left, with my mom on my right. There were a couple people behind me, and plenty in front.

Then the Ford music videos started playing, and I knew the time was near. Whenever a body part of Adam's showed up, the fans SCREAMED. They screamed some for Kris and Gokey, but not like they did for Adam. It really was an Adam crowd. Which personally made me happy since I'm an Adam fan. They showed the "We Will Rock You" one, and a couple others. The slow motion running one, and the mix it up one. Maybe more.

Then the screen did a countdown, 10 to 1. With every number they showed a picture of the corresponding idol. With every number shown the screams got progressively louder. Not sure if Kris got more screaming than Adam, but he certainly got screams. The screaming noticeably got louder around Anoop and Matt, then much louder from there on.

(Every idol said something along the lines of: "What's up Sacramento?"" Also they used the coming out of the floor trick a lot, especially when a piano was involved.)

(Just so everyone knows, I am aware that my opinions may differ from yours.)

SARVER: Since I saw his tweet about his injured foot, I wasn't sure what to expect. But he was on his feet, and moving across the stage. His first song was good, and got the crowd going. After that song, he talked a little bit about being in love, and how the next song was for everybody who is in love. He sang "Closer" which is a song I really enjoy, so I really liked that.

MEGAN: I had really liked her on the show, and even bought her version of "Put Your Records On." She did that song, which was nice enough. She talked a little bit about how the next song was for the ladies who weren't in love. Then she did the next song. It was awful. I'm really sorry about that. It was the only time in the show I wanted to cover my ears. She looked absolutely amazing though. Megan was very cute on stage, but her voice...

SCOTT: I was a fan of his during the auditions, but somewhere along the way I stopped liking his voice as much. He impressed me tonight, and won me back over as a fan. He came out of the floor playing the piano. I was not expecting that, so that was a nice surprise. Scott sang very nicely, and then in between songs he told jokes. He did an impression of Simon, and made jokes about how his high five with Ryan was the high five that was heard around the world. He was pretty funny.

LIL: I liked her a lot on the show. She did a good job with her songs, and really did do some moves from the "Single Ladies" dance. Just a little differently. Not much to say here.

ANOOP: (When he was just beginning his set I tried my best to channel the Anoop stans here.)He really impressed me. I had not really liked him much on the show, but I'm a fan of Anoop now. His voice is really nice, and smooth. What really won me over was his "My Prerogative" performance. I was looking at the screen to the side, and around the beginning when he sings, "they say I'm nasty," he bends back a bit, and did something to make the girls scream. Then more towards the middle/end he did a few thrusts, which caused more screaming. Very entertaining.

Then his set ended, and a few bastards in front of me and to the far side booed. D: Not enough that he would hear, I think. But it pissed me off. I was a newly born Anoop fan, and then they boo him? >:( Not cool. I wish I could have done something. Like throw them off the upper level. But no. (ETA: May have misheard "Noop" as booing. At the moment in time though it sounded like booing, so IDK)

MATT: I didn't care for him on the show, but he did an okay job overall. During the first song, the white flashing lights blinded me so I couldn't concentrate on him. Then he did a very nice job singing "Georgia." Then a bad job with "You Found Me." Not very memorable.

GROUP NUMBER: It was enjoyable, but I don't remember much from it.

INTERMISSION: Mom and I luckily did not need to use the restroom the entire show. People left their seats, including the couple on my left. They never came back the entire show. Mom and I both thought that was pretty strange. They were playing Ford videos, and the same music videos again.

Then the majority had made it back to their seats as the lights dimmed, and show went on.

ALLISON: I liked Allison on the show, but now I just love her. She is amazing on that stage. She can really move, and really sing. She was just fantastic. Then in between songs she talked a little bit about the three guys coming after her. She started naming them, and when she named Kris, I'm sorry to say I heard booing on my left. It MIGHT have been loud enough for Allison to hear. I'm not sure. She didn't react at all, so she probably didn't hear it, but I don't know. Oh and some jerk, who my mom told me had probably had a beer, was talking over Allison's performance. D: Luckily she was loud enough I could ignore him, but JFC. Overall: wonderful, perfect performance

DANNY: I didn't really care for him on the show, but I recognized he actually had a good voice. He did a good job with all his songs except the last one. The last one might have just been personal taste getting in the way, though. The speech I remembered reading about wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It wasn't that long, and it was just genuine. He brought up how you shouldn't let your past define you, and yes, that his wife died before he tried out for AI. But it was a really nice and genuine speech.

ADAM: I loved him on the show and my love for him can only grow from here. When Whole Lotta Love started, and he began to sing...I was stunned, actually. His voice is so much...higher, I guess, than on tape. It has a certain sound to it that I had never heard before. I completely got what the whole burlesque angel thing was about. He did come off as more feminine, but it took me til halfway through Starlight (the second song)to adjust to it. But when he was just starting WLL, he did indeed grab his crotch. Then right near the end, right before "BAAAAAABY" he puts the microphone stand between his legs like at the other show, but with a little less stroking. Then "Starlight" was beautiful, even as I was recovering from hearing his voice in person. His voice is just AMAZING. So rich and beautiful. And then he introduced Allison as his little sister, and they rocked out. Then he did the Bowie medley. At some point his jacket came off, and then during the dance one, he did some very cute/sexy dance moves. And "Mad World" was gorgeous.

Everything Adam did was flawless.

KRIS: I didn't care much for Kris on the show, but tonight I was...astounded. He entered through the floor rising up, and kicked off with "Heartless." He is so good live! I loved it. He had some weird curtain they draped behind him, but that doesn't matter. I think it dropped at some point and the stage hands dragged it off. Then he sang the mystery song! The whole time I was trying to figure it out and then the line came, "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier." I was so surprised, but pleased at the same time. Then the piano entered through the floor, and he played "Ain't No Sunshine." He did a great job. Then "Hey Jude" was amazing, and everyone waved their glowsticks and cell phones. I didn't care for "Bright Lights," but I just think I don't like that song. So everything except for "Bright Lights" was very good. I believe I might be a fan of his now.

GROUP NUMBER: Very nice. Good ending. Have mostly no memory of it. (ETA: Actually I suddenly remembered a little Kradam moment. When everyone is singing "NA NA NA," Adam and Kris grin at each other and start bobbing up and down in sync. Like leaning down and bouncing back upright a few times. It was like five "NA"s. Very cute. They ran around close to each other basically the entire number, and entered the stage together through the floor)

Overall the show was mind shattering and hearing problem inducing. I was left in a daze all the way to the car. It took at the most ten minutes to get out of the parking lot, surprisingly.

ETA: Gotta sleep, so I can't answer any more questions for now. I really appreciate all of your comments. <3
