FT. WORTH, Texas A 14-year-old high school student in Fort Worth was suspended after remarking to a classmate in his German language class that he believes homosexuality is wrong.

Yep, this.

Students often do have more rights than they may be aware of, but being offensive isn't one of them. That gay kid sitting behind you in German class has the right to learn German without hearing that he's a bad person.

If that's just the way it went, particularly "It wasn’t directed to anyone except my friend who was sitting behind me," then I'd call this overreach by the school.

There's a difference between bullying and stating an opinion.

If anything, it will enrage the right-wingers and activate them. I think it would have been better to discuss the statement and the issue in class (though that would also be fraught with risk).

Why is the school obliged to allow him to spew this crap in front of other students? ESPECIALLY ones who already face homophobia outside the classroom?
