Of course, seeing as I'm straight, I don't think I could ever get it. Idk. =\ It just strikes me as being weird is all.

Even if it turns out that everyone in Congress who has ever voted against gay rights legislation is a closeted homosexual themselves, they're still guilty of homophobia.

It isn't like gay ppl can't be homophobic. That's what internalized homophobia *is* (or, if you watch 'Glee,' Karofsky Syndrome.)

I really wish this would stop happening. It's creating an awful stereotype that homophobes are secretly gay. And I don't think I have to say how bad that makes the gay community look.

I'm still blaming straight people for all of that.

It certainly seems that there's a correlation, though... or at least the lack of the strong anticorrelation that you'd expect.

(By "correlation" I mean the mathematical sense of the term: the percentage of virulent homophobes who are gay is greater than the percentage of people who are gay. You'd expect it to be much less.)

This of course doesn't support that stereotype, any more than the overrepresentation of Jews in physics suggests that all/most Jews are physicists. But it's at least interesting statistically.

I recall a study (described to me by my partner at the time, who is a neuropsychologist; I don't have a citation, but she studies this stuff) that surveyed self-described straight men about their attitudes toward homosexuality, and then showed them gay porn while attaching a miniature blood pressure cuff (called a "rigiometer", lulz) to their penises. Sure enough, there was a positive correlation between homophobic attitudes and penile erection when watching gay porn.
