Did you see what happened to Dr. Laura?!?!?!?!?!?! (http://mediamatters.org/blog/201008120045)

I know it's petty for me to be so excited, but I can't help but enjoy it when ugly people show their true colors. Much better than letting them hide out, disguised as regular people.

Oh, and in case there's any confusion:

A)What she said was mind boggling ugly. It's not so much her point (that there's a "double standard" about who can say what when it comes to race), but how completely irrelevant her point was to the situation. As a thought experiment, what would have happened if the woman was just unhappy with her husband's friends' language in general...if for example, she wished her husband would ask them to stop saying fucking bitches in front of her. Would Dr. Laura have immediately jumped to telling her she was hypersensitive and stupid? No...she only did that because the woman used the word racist, and somehow the idea that racism exists is an attack on everything that Dr. Laura believes. Like I said, ugly.

B)This is not a First Amendment thing. A couple years ago, one of my mom's favorite radio talk show hosts got fired for accidentally saying "fuck Joe the Plumber" into a live mike when he thought he wouldn't be heard over the air...I think that was kind of overkill, but he did screw up and it was unprofessional. I'm certainly not under the impression that I get to use whatever kind of language I feel like at work. And talking is Dr. Laura's actual job. If the radio station isn't happy with the work she's doing, they have every right to push her out. And hallelujah.
