WHO: All are invited to attend!
WHAT: The Summer Masquerade, hosted by Hokuto, to celebrate the success of the dating auction.
WHERE: Gemello Park, on the outskirts of Vescovo territory.
WHEN: Day 84.
It was only by Hokuto-style magic that the otherwise unremarkable pavillion at Gemello Park into something truly worthy of a summer night's masquerade. There were white lights strung up along the banisters, and paper lanterns hanging from the trees. A white poster with neat, black print detailed the results of the auction, a flourish underlining an elegant thank you.
Beside the poster, on a small decorative table, there are two ballot boxes: one labeled "Lord of the Ball" and the other "Lady of the Ball." On two cushions, there is a circlet for a gentleman and one for a lovely lady.
A long, rectangular table sat within the pavilion, generously covered in a a variety of desserts: everything from cake to finger foods. Another table of similar make was lined up beside the first, freshly prepared food from the Hungry Bug-- courtesy of Caiman-- filling the air with a delicious aroma. Nearby, small orchestra was settled in the grass, a graying conductor leading their warm-up.
Several circular tables sat in the grass and under the pavilion. Each one was covered in a white tablecloth. Some were decorated with a vase of blue and yellow flowers. Others were graced with a strawberry tree. Small party favors were placed at each seat: chocolates in edible silver coating, neatly packaged in blue boxes, tied with white ribbon.
Tables were waited upon by dozen or so servers in a simple black masks and impeccable uniform, each no doubt tailored by the hostess herself. Each server carried his own tray, with glasses of champagne or more finger foods to offer to guest. Two rather built men at the entrance to the area, both wearing uniforms of their own, were checking identities and announcing guests as they arrived-- like a proper ball.
And the hostess herself was radiant with the pleasure of her work, floating around making last minute tweaks to decorations in a shimmering gown. Clasped in Hokuto's small hands was an ornate mask, which she had neglected to put on just yet. She was a modern day Amaterasu, lighting the last of the lanterns and lifting them up into the trees with care.
