Umeda smirked at Lloyd. The light went on in the doctor's head as it dawned on him. Lloyd wasn't ignoring him, and he wasn't innocent. He just didn't care, but that didn't bother Umeda in the slightest. He was still fun to play with.

"It was a complement, so you're welcome," Umeda said, picking up his lighter and toying with it idly. "There's no doubt that I've gotten my fill of wit and sarcasm for the next week from you. Maybe I should ask for something else in return next time I offer you pudding."

"We'll have to discuss a price then," said Lloyd cheerfully, sticking his spoon back in the pudding tub. Only there was nothing to meet the spoon. Slightly taken aback, he glanced down; the entire tub was empty. He had eaten all of it without realizing.

"Oh dear," he said absently. "I've eaten all of your pudding."

Umeda glanced at the empty tub. Sure enough the man had finished off the whole thing. "I'm still amazed that you haven't puked," he said, offhandedly. He glanced back at Lloyd, a slight smirk on his lips. "Let's just say you owe me one."

Umeda stood up from the chair he had been sitting on all night and looked at his watch. When did it get so late? He pushed the chair back to the table it came from and stretched. "Well, what now? You've gotten your pudding, and it's one in the morning," he said, sliding his hands into his pockets. "I advise you to not walk home alone here at this time, because there's no doubt that you could get shot at. You're welcome to stay the night or call a cab." Lloyd had provided a rather interesting conversation, and Umeda felt that there was no doubt the man would be invited back.

Lloyd laughed. "Deal," he said, smiling. "And if it's only one in the morning, I'll take a cab back home. The night is young, and I've got plenty of work I can be doing. But feel free to look me up sometime," he called over his shoulder, as he made his way to the door to collect his shoes. "It's been interesting, Umeda."

Umeda walked to the door behind Lloyd. "The night is young for anyone who doesn't have to wake up at six AM. But I'll defiantly stay in touch," he said, leaning against the wall nearest the door. "It has been interesting. It's nice to find someone who can toss my cynicism right back at me with out taking offense. It was nice to meet you, Lloyd."

He stepped carefully back into his shoes. "It was nice to meet you too," he said, honestly meaning it for once. "It's nice to be able to say what I like and not be punched in the face for it. Good-bye, Umeda."

With a careless wave over his shoulder he was out the door, making his way back to the elevator and the street below, where he could hail a cab and go back to his workshop.

His work was never done, after all.
