Lulu had dressed down that morning, way down, almost to the point of dressing up--for Lulu--in her jeans and a silk top--which meant not only that she was a little early, not having wasted time primping, but she actually looked almost normal for a change.

After all, if Lulu ever took a day off, this was it--and it was all about Elena today. The last thing she wanted was for Elena to be uncomfortable. Still, that didn't mean she wasn't going to try and get the girl to have a little fun being...well, a girl.

Pulling up in front of the Turks' headquarters with the top down, Lulu waved when she saw Elena waiting out from, shutting of the engine and twirling the keys. "Ready to rock and roll?"

Elena started down the steps as soon as she saw the car turn the corner. She slid into the passanger side before she noticed how dressed down Lulu really was. She wasn't used to seeing her so...well, covered up. But it looked good on her. After studying the pattern on her shirt, Elena lifted her eyes to Lulu's face and smiled.

"Always." That was the attitude Elena had adopted for most things...even when that little voice inside her head said that maybe, just maybe she should think this one through a little better.

The blonde didn't look uncomfortable yet. In fact, she seemed a bit relieved. She was used to being around her guys. She loved them, adored them. But there were just some things...

The thought trailed off there while a sigh escaped her lips. Elena blinked out of her thoughts, giving Lulu a trusting and even eager expression. "Where to?"

"Good deal," Lulu said, watching the expressions play over Elena's face. The blonde might be one tough cookie but she was still a sweet girl underneath. Lulu wondered if maybe by the end of their play-date they might not be more like friends than the rivals that Tseng had originally bargained for.

"Well," she said, putting the car in gear and pulling into traffic, "I was going to ask you if you had any shops in mind, but maybe I should just ask where your budget cuts off and surprise you. What do you think?"

"That sounds good." Elena consented with a slight shrug. "I'm looking for something to wear tonight." And she doubts anywhere that she goes would have anything appropriate. At the mention of a budget... Elena faced forward and sank down in her seat a bit. A faint smirk crossed her lips, and when she looked back over at the other woman it was with a definite glow of mischief in her eyes. "There is no budget." She confirmed before holding something up between two fingers...a checkbook. "Boss told me to use it in case of emergencies. I think this counts." Eheh.

For a moment, Lulu thought maybe she'd offended Elena by about her spending limit, but when the blonde looked up again she realized it was quite the opposite.

When the cat's away the mice will play.

"All right, but you've got my back when he finds out whose idea it was to take you shopping," she said with a smirk. Somehow she suspected Tseng wouldn't mind Elena playing dress-up for a change.

"Why don't we hit the mall and see what catched your eye."

Sometimes the cat barely gets out of sight.

"Of course." Elena answered simply when Lulu asked if she had her back. "That's what I do." She's the back-up. But she'll try not to go too wild. Just enough for an outfit or two. And if Tseng does notice? He took off to Hong Kong without any of his Turks. She's pretty sure she can guilt trip him with that. It was her ace in the hole.

"I'm looking for something for tonight. For..." She trailed off and glanced over at Lulu. It seemed silly to say the word aloud. "I wonder what Rude's favorite color is? I bet it's blue." Elena mused over that for a moment before frowning. "I look horrible in blue." Other than the darker blues of a suit.

Not too wild--hence Lulu opting for the mall instead of the designer botiques where they would need an appointment just to walk in the door. Not that she couldn't have gotten one, but...maybe next time.

"Okay, here we are," she said, taking the exit and pulling into a parking ramp--glancing over at Elena as the younger woman puzzled out loud. Not that they couldn't find something dressy in a dark blue, but... "Well, what sort of colors do you like?" Maybe hey could come up with a compromise.

Elena was still in the last year of her teens. The mall should've therefore made her immensely happy. But she just blinked when it came into view. How long had it been since she'd last been there.

...

Had she ever been there?

"Huh? Oh." Elena opened the door once they were parked. "I don't know. Red?" That sounded more like another question than an answer though. She sighed, meeting Lulu in front of the car. "Here's what it boils down to. I'm flat-chested. A B-cup, barely. I have decent legs, but skinny arms. I don't like too much jewelry, I know very little about make-up, and I bite my fingernails to the quick." She paused there, blinking at all of her own little confessions. "Help me. I just wanna look like a girl tonight. Rude paid a lot of money." His own money. Not Tseng's.

Stepping out of the car, Lulu locked up, and offered Elena a sympathetic smile. It always struck her as odd how people would confide in her--but she supposed that was part of what made her good at her job.

She listened quietly, mentally tallying Elena's troubles and brainstorming possible solutions, taking a moment to study the blonde from an artistic point of view. She may not have a pair of pontoons, but a B-cup was hardly flat-chested, and if Elena liked red, wel, a deep red polish looked less witchy on short nails anyway. Now...how to inspire a little confidence.

"Baby," she said, walking around the car to link her arm with Elena's, "You've come to th right place. Now," she added as she pulled Elena toward the entrance, "The trick about arms is to do fifty pushups before you get dolled up--it'll give your arms a little extra definition for the night--and the rest, well, just you wait and see..."

Elena resisted the urge to fidgit during Lulu's brief scrutiny. She'd invited it after all. But there was a sigh of relief once it was finished and she was being led to the door. "Push-ups?" She made a slight face at that. It reminded her too much of training. The more she thought about it though, the more a faint smirk started to cross her lips. "Oh, I get it. So the girl starts the night off doing push-ups, and the guy ends the night..." Why even finish that?

Her expression became slightly unreadable once they were inside the mall. But just as Lulu had guessed, she was a girl who learned how to adapt. And before long she was window shopping with the best of them.

"Lulu." Elena came to an abrupt stop, stopping the other woman with her. The blonde cocked her head to the side before pointing out just what had caught her attention. "What about that one?" She looked over to see what the other woman thought of the dress. But Elena's voice betrayed her.

She liked it.

Lulu laughed under her breath as Elena's pretty (reckless) mouth ran to conclusions about how one thing led to another. Not that Lulu minded. It was true, that was usually how most of her own dates ended up, if she was thinking what Elena was thinking. She smirked ( ... )

Elena waited, hoping that Lulu's opinion about the dress would match her own. She'd probably come back to it regardless. It was the only thing Elena had seen so far that she thought she actually might, might be able to pull off. But it was a relief when Lulu said she should try it on ( ... )

Now that was more like it, Lulu thought as she let Elena drag in into the store, trying not to smirk at the younger woman's near-impatience as the dress was retrieved.

Silently helping Elena with the zipper, she stood back and waited for Elena to look in the mirror, and then she couldn't help but smile. "Of course it does," she said, "But how does it feel?"

Because Lulu didn't give a damn about the old adage that 'beauty is pain.' She figured if a girl felt beautiful and sexy in a t-shirt and jeans, then hell yeah, she was going to look it. So if the dress made Elena feel good about herself...

"Want to pick out some shoes to match?"

Elena wouldn't subscribe to that philosophy either. But she didn't know that sometimes...just sometimes, it could be this easy. She bit down on her bottom lip, turning in the dress and watching as the hem swirled a little around her legs. The top of the tattoo on her back could be seen easily, but Elena liked that too. Finally she took a step back, keeping her eyes on the mirror for a moment longer.

"It feels really good." She admitted sheepishly. Not something she could pull off every day...or would even want to. But right now she kept wanting to smile.

But then that smile faded. "Shoes." She looked over at Lulu before glancing around at the selection nearby. That's right, she'd need those too. Her eyes lingered on a particular pair, but then looked down. The wheels in her head were still turning though. She'd never worn heels in her life. She'd probably kill herself. But Rude towered over her...she could use the extra inches in height. Her gaze returned to the heels and turned almost defiant. "I can do this." ( ... )

Lulu smiled to herself, watching Elena being girly, and pondering over the shoe section. She laughed then, realizing she'd been so caught up in Elena's fun that she'd almost forgotten what she came to shop for.

"Oh, I'm looking," she teased, peering around a rack of shoes. "Make sure you walk around in those a bit to make sure they're at least moderately comfortable."

On a date, fortunately, most girls wouldn't end up walking or being on their feet all that much--but one never knew. Elena could probably use a little practice--just as long as they didn't overdo it--before the the real thing.

Holding up a pair of shoes that looked more like a sculpture, she laughed, kicking off her own strappy sandals to model the new pair. "What do you think of these, Elena, do they match my shirt or what?"

Elena wrapped the brown ribbon of the shoe around her ankle before tying it at the back of her heel. "Right." She nodded, a little of her earlier concern creeping back as she repeated the process with the second one ( ... )
