There wasn't much going on at the garage, either; Rikku has purposely cleaned the place out of customers and employees alike, leaving just one person in the main hangar in case anybody showed up. He was a year or two younger than her, and she knew he was crushing on her hard. But it couldn't be helped--it wasn't her fault if most people who volunteered to work for her wanted to get into her pants ( ... )

Lulu shut off the engine, stepped out of the car, and locked it behind her of course--hiding the keys somewhere out of sight in case Rikku got cute.

Not that she didn't trust her friend--but one never knew what went on in that girl's head sometimes. Besides, the girl reminded Lulu a little of herself, in that she probably couldn't pass up a challenge.

"Rao!" she called in answer, strolling toward the door, a smirk playing over her lips as she made her way. Saying "hey" in Al Bhed sounded so kind of...catty. She liked it. "Kuut du caa oui."

Stealing from Lulu was a very tempting idea--Rikku new she had several valuable objects, a lot of which she'd like to get her hands on. But on her short list of ethics, "do not steal from people you're friends with" was pretty close to the top. Besides, she knew the elder would have no qualms about kicking her ass if she had to.

The young thief stepped back from the door a pace or two, still smiling broadly. She hadn't seen the brunette in a good while--it was good to be around someone she knew, someone she could trust. At least, she was pretty sure she could trust Lulu--there had never really been anything to suggest otherwise.

Once her friend was through the door, she nudged it shut and looped her their arms together. "Megafeca," she said cheerily, giving a winning smile to her employee (who was staring at them both now--she made a mental note to dock his pay a bit) before steering Lulu towards the stairs. "Ed'c paah y frema."

"Duu muhk," Lulu smiled and went inside, glancing around the place with an approving nod as Rikku caught her by the arm.

"Hud pyt yd ymm." Rikku seemed to be doing well for herself, Lulu thought--sparing a quick wink for the gawking boy at the front desk as the younger woman pulled her upstairs.

She was glad to sense that here was at least one more person she could count as a friend--and even in the unlikely even that someone offered to pay Lulu to come between Rikku and whomever she had set her sights on...Rikku had nothing to worry about from Lulu.

"Cu...ruf crymm fa tu drec?" she asked, suspecting that she sounded even worse to Rikku, "Do I sound as rusty as I think I do?"

Lulu nodded sagely. She could believe that about Rikku. Not that the girl was mean like that, but she seemed to flit from place to place, not ever settling down for too long.

"Well, they say there's a first time for everything," Lulu said, "But I hope you never have yours broken." Lulu had, once or twice, and it wasn't pretty--but it was part of who she was now. She survived.

She thought maybe she was ready to try again. "I suppose we just have to play it by ear."

Even though it was common for people in her community to marry young, Rikku wasn't quite ready for that sort of commitment yet. She knew she wanted a loving husband, and she knew she wanted children--tons of them, if she was lucky. But seventeen years old was just a bit too early to actually go through with anything, though she had been thinking about it since she her own mother had died.

"I'd get through it okay." After all, Lulu had, she knew. And whatever Lulu could do, Rikku could strive to accomplish as well. Having been deprived of any female siblings, the elder woman had been a sister-figure to the young thief ever since they'd known each other.

She nodded, finishing off the rest of her water. "Agreed," she said contemplatively. "I just hope it's a good tune."

As someone who nearly had married young--who was still young despite the weight of the world on the shoulders in her twenty-two years--Lulu would have had to agree. True, if things had worked out, she might have skipped a few heartaches, but who knew where she'd be now.

Now, at least, she knew where she'd been, and while she may not know exactly where she was going, she knew she was moving forward. Not everyone in her position could have said that. "E ruba cu duu, cec," she said, "E ruba cu duu. E naymmo drehg dra diha lyh pa frydajan oui syga uv ed."

"E'ja ymfyoc paah y zywwo cund uv kenm," she chuckled, setting her cup on the floor and curling up on the couch. The furniture creaked a little beneath her slight weight, but she ignored it. When she thought about it, jazz might suit Lulu better--classy music for a classy woman.

A sudden thought stuck her, and she sat forward, face lighting up. "E ymsucd vunkud! E ryja cusadrehk du cruf oui!" With that, the young thief went to jump off the couch, conveniently forgetting that her legs were still crossed. So instead she ended up face-down on the carpet, her bum sticking up in the air. Not fazed at all, she pushed herself to her feet, springing up as if she hadn't just been a complete klutz, and trotted towards the kitchen before starting to rifle through some drawers. "E derhg oui'mm ybbnuja," she said confidently.
