It was almost always dark in Shouichi's office, the only light being the glow of the over-sized, flat paneled monitor and a small table lamp that flickered and buzzed more often than not. Though unintentional, it was a good way to hide the mess. Empty water bottles and cans of coffee littered the desk - books, documents and miscellaneous computer parts were strewn about the floor. Filing cabinets were overflowing and placed in a long row against the wall. You could hear the whirring of the computer, which stood next to the desk in a tall case - external harddrives stacked on top.
For him, it was easy to concentrate like this. This was when Shouichi felt most comfortable. In the dark, plugging away and listening to music.
He stopped typing a moment to switch the song on his MP3 player. A minor volume adjustment made to his circumaural headphones and he was right back to typing at a furious pace.
