Roy smiled at Hawkeye as the waiter left, having taken his order as well. "Oh? Are you religious, Miss Hawkeye?" He made it as casual as he could, putting the "Miss" honorific as to not make the other woman too angry. It was a dinner, after all, they were not at work here, so he figured calling her by her last name would not irate her too much.

The seafood selection looked good, and he was quite interested in the Lobster Newbert. "What are you thinking of, Miss Hawkeye? The seafood here is quite delicious. Their meat is sumptious too."

She looked away from the scrawling text on the menu, amber gaze flicking toward her superior for the briefest of moments. "Not particularly, no," she countered, very nearly having to bite her tongue to keep from calling him 'sir'.

With that query fended off, she looked back to the menu, skimming through the options quickly. She was still starving, and she didn't much care what she ordered but... "The veal sounds quite good."

He merely nodded, not pursuing the matter. Hawkeye had secrets of her own, and he respected that, as long as it wasn't anything vitally important to the Commission. The menu was set aside as the waiter approached, carrying their wines. Dark eyes briefly glanced at the glass of sangria placed before Hawkeye before taking his own wine glass.

"Are you having a fine evening so far, Miss Hawkeye?" He asked, lips skirting around the mouth of the wine glass and tasting just a drop of sweet alcohol.

Riza took a small sip of the sangria to make certain it was to her liking, and they both placed their orders (she went with the blanquette de veau). She arched a brow at Roy's next question... she certainly wasn't going to give him a straight answer, that would just give him more ammunition.

"You should really stop trying to charm me, signore."

"I'm just... trying to strike a conversation." Roy blinked at her, chuckling. "Military talk doesn't really suit a fine dinner like this, don't you think?" He fell silent after that, just sipping his wine slowly. Maybe he was being ahead of himself here - Hawkeye was not an ordinary woman, and she was definitely not someone like those women he usually dated. He needed to change the approach.

It took a great deal of Riza's willpower to keep from rolling her eyes when Mustang spoke. No, military talk didn't belong in such a restaurant... but other than that or her love of guns, she really didn't know what Roy could possibly talk to her about that she would actually not object to. He certainly had his work cut out for him, considering that Hawkeye didn't much believe in conversation.

Such things were his forte, after all.

Roy screwed an eyebrow, eyes closed as he tried to rack his mind for a topic that would not put him at Hawkeye's gunpoint. Maybe inviting her out to dinner wasn't such a good idea after all - and he was making a fool of himself right there. He took another sip of wine, mind skirting around topics that he usually brought up during those normal dates.

... Nothing would suit Hawkeye.

He inwardly cursed. Why did she have to be such a difficult woman? Now that he thought about it, he was quite hungry. The food better get there soon...

Riza took another sip of her sangria, a bit of amusement shining in her eyes when Roy's thoughts played out on his face. Either his mask was failing, or she had perfected reading him after eight years as his subordinate. He clearly had no idea what to say or do, as she had completely disarmed him of his usual tactics by simply keeping her own masks firmly in place.

The red liquid swirled in clear crystal glass as Roy toyed with it, mind starting to drift off on another tangent. He couldn't think of anything, and staying silent was becoming increasingly more favorable than to trying to strike a conversation. Not with Hawkeye, anyway.

A tune came from Roy's pocket, and he raised an eyebrow, taking out the vibrating phone and glancing at the caller ID. It was one of the girls - he realized, and inwardly cursed himself for not remembering to turn the phone off. Frankly, it would have been nice to talk to someone, but that was incredibly rude, especially when he was on a date with a woman. So he waited until the call went to voice mail, then turned the mobile off, putting it safely back in his pocket.

Riza arched a brow when Roy's phone broke the silence that had settled between them. Truth be told, she was quite shocked that he turned it off instead of answering- this had to be the most boring and frustrating 'date' he'd ever been on. Thankfully, their food arrived just then, and she thanked the waiter as her entree was placed before her.
