After hesitating for a moment, looking around the store to see if there were any disapproving glances, Edward eased himself onto the piano stool. His vision was transfixed by the beautiful instrument in front of him. He hadn't been able to play, barring random circumstances where an establishment would have a piano, for quite a few years. Since his parents had died, in fact. Carlisle had often offered to buy one for him, but he had always refused. Pianos were rather a lot of money and required a large enough space to store them.

He was afraid that his gap in playing would have diminished his skills. That he would have forgotten what it was like and how to play it properly, but he chanced it anyway, placing his hands in the proper positions curiously.

It took a moment to readjust himself to the settings, but it was hardly as though he had forgotten the notes. And, as he began to play, he realized he had hardly forgotten the music either.

A soft kind of pleasure spread through him as his fingers flew across the keys, slowly at first and then gradually faster and faster, the clear music of Debussy's Clair de Lune winding out. If he had been paying more attention to his surroundings, Edward would have noticed an almost intoxicating flowery scent enter the store.

As it was, he had no eyes for anything but the piano, no ears for anything but the harmony and melody, and no senses for anything but the enthrallment he had in the music.

Clair de Lune, she thought, enthralled. She felt like she was momentarily paralyzed. Edward wasn't just good, he was amazing.

When Bella found the strength to pull her eyes away she looked around the shop at the other teenage girls. They too, had stopped what they were doing and were just standing there with their mouths hanging open. Some of them, the ones who even had the audacity to speak during this masterful display, were whispering to each other frantically- probably congratulating each other on just finding the love of their lives.

Feeling like she'd seen enough, Bella stepped out from behind her shelf and walked over to the piano. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't mystified still, because she was. A large part of her didn't even want to make her presence known so that he could continue.

He's probably just doing this to pick up girls . . . or victims.

The other girls in the store had somehow congregated around them, though standing behind divides and shelves. Bella saw them giving her funny looks because she was the only one approaching him.

Well excuse me, she thought angrily. I'm not his girlfriend- don't get pissed at me.

Teenager or not, Edward was usually almost unusually oblivious to those of the opposite gender and the infatuations that they tended to have on him. Jasper himself was probably more conscious, if only because he could feel the crushes that normal girls had on him and feeling crushes was a lot different from reading them in thoughts. The situation was hardly different at the moment. So entranced by the music and playing was he, that he hardly noticed the twittering girls thronging around him. For once, Edward could hear no thoughts, even the loud ones declaring their intent to marry him should he even look their way.

It was a testament to how far gone he was that he didn't even notice Bella as she approached him. It wasn't until he had finished Clair de Lune, fingers resting on keys close together on the piano, that he even blinked, the trance the winding music had held him in suddenly breaking. It was another few minutes before he could will himself to remove his fingers from the ivory keys that felt so comfortable and soothing beneath.

The throng of girls was seemingly getting closer. Bella could tell by the increasingly uncomfortable feeling she felt when someone invaded her personal space. They probably felt threatened by her because she was the only one 'composed' enough to talk to him.

"You should put out your own CD," she interrupted his daze, placing a hand on the top of the piano. One of the managers came hurrying over and immediately made her move it.

"You have tons of fans," she rolled her eyes and tried to ignore the girls that were being so blatantly stupid. Bella figured it had something to do with the vampire thing. Jasper never told her as much, be she had a suspicion that they had some kind of power to lure people.

Either that, or both of them were just exceptionally good looking.

Once Edward's trance was broken, it was only a few seconds before sounds and thoughts started filtering in as well. He was startled to find that he had been so immersed in playing that he had all but forgotten his surroundings. That, however, was nothing compared to the shock of finding Jasper's friend standing beside him.

He jerked a little to the side, an automatic reaction these days, and didn't bother to hide the surprise in his voice.

"Bella?"

He hadn't seen her in person since the night he had stopped Jasper from drinking her. That brief flashback, of course, reminded him immediately of his own drinking experience a week earlier and then, as if on cue, his senses were heightened immediately; most particularly his sense of smell. And what he found, from his heightened senses, was that Bella smelled amazingly, deliciously wonderful.

He recoiled from her immediately.

Bella wasn't really surprised by the initial reaction and remark. She took it with a grain of salt, in fact.

"Lovely to see you too."

But speaking of personal space, Edward removed himself from Bella's immediately. His sudden movement made her twitch a little. She wasn't used to people doing that- the last time being when her mom saw a spider on the wall over year ago.

"I don't have too many cooties," she chuckled when her adrenaline calmed down.

Could she really blame him for looking repulsed? She wasn't anywhere near his league in beauty. She was gum on his shoe.

Bella was the last person that Edward had expected to run into. Truth be told, he hadn't expected to run into anyone, so it wasn't really saying much. Still, if the surprise of her sudden appearance wasn't enough to momentarily render him speechless (and not many things could), then her smell did the trick.

He remembered smelling her that day in the alley. Her smell had even stopped him, all while he was trying to stop Jasper from drinking her. But he hadn't had blood to drink then. Now that he had, his sense of smell was strengthened even more, refined in a sense. And he could tell, now, why Jasper had such a hard time staying away from this girl. She smelled intoxicating. Sweet and flowery. Edward had no idea why, but he could see a dozen different scenarios in his head, each of them ending in him partaking of her blood and enjoying every last drop of it.

He paled a little as he found more and more visions overloading his senses. No. There were too many people here. He would give himself away. And she was just a girl. And innocent civilian. He had to keep reminding himself that, even as his throat dried, aching for a drink.

"I didn't expect to see you here," Edward managed. He wanted to move away from her, but somehow his body was refusing to cooperate.

"I didn't expect to see you here either," Bella said casually, plopping down on the piano bench next to him. The girls around them heightened their whispering and began to go about their own businesses finally.

"I thought you left for good."

Well, that was a lie. She never thought Edward would leave Reggio Calabria forever, but she had expected him to stay out of most popular part of the city for awhile.

His blatant revulsion was starting to bother her more than she'd like, so she turned away from him and started thinking up things to say about his musical talents.

"Debussy is a favorite of mine, if you didn't already know..."

Now she was just sounding like an obsessed fangirl or something. It was not the impression she wanted to give off. She wanted to behave differently than the girls around them.

Edward nearly choked when she sat down next to him. The movement caused her scent to waft about and the close proximity nearly overwhelmed his senses. He had to use every ounce of his willpower to not take her there and then. He could hear the envious thoughts of the girls surrounding them, but even those thoughts seemed like static on a radio station in the distance. It was dangerous at best. Fatal at worst.

He took quick, shallow breaths to avoid breathing in her scent as much as possible, although even that was making him light-headed and dizzy. He decided that he needed to keep her talking. If nothing else, it would keep him distracted enough to leave the store.

"I came back," Edward said rigidly, trying to think past the haze in his mind. "He's my favorite as well."

It didn't take Bella long to realize that Edward was acting strange. He didn't only seem mad, but he was also acting slightly hysterical. It was only then that she remembered what Jasper had told her the other day- about how he forced Edward to drink.

"Do you want to go outside?" she asked instinctively. She knew that he must have been feeling guilty or skittish, or both, and she didn't want to discuss this personal matter in a room full of music and giddy girls.

Ignorantly, however, she didn't think for a second that he was having problems dealing with her blood at the moment. She was still in the dark about a lot of issues concerning the blood lust.

Edward would rather have gone outside and left her inside the music store. Then put a few blocks between them before taking the chance to breathe freely again. However, he knew how Bella worked by observation and, if nothing else, her thoughts were running through his head at the moment. She would just blame herself for not being as attractive or being useless or ... he remembered his conversation with Elle a week earlier and his head throbbed. Mind reading abilities or not, girls were not a strong suit for Edward Cullen.

He decided that going outside would probably be the best course of action under such circumstances. At least outside, her smell would be mingled with others who were walking down the street. And the wind would be a blessing as well.

"Yes please," Edward said, standing up from the piano stool. He found that he was a little wobbly. Shaking his head to clear it, it was only then that he noticed the throng of girls.

He frowned and in his confusion, unwisely offered a hand to Bella to help her up as well.

Bella furrowed her eyebrows at his bizarre behavior. He looked unstable. She glanced around at the girls standing nearby and then at Edward again. Did he feel thirsty? Were they enticing to him?

"Okay," she agreed calmly and took his hand. It may have just been her imagination, but his grip was shaky.

Bella had been here to look at, and maybe purchase some music, but she figured that if Edward said he was going to upload some stuff for her, she'd be fine.

What was more important right now, was getting him out of this store if he was thirsty. He was looking at those girls like they were cows in a field.

"Are you thirsty?" she whispered in his ear when they were both standing. She could have been wrong in her assumptions, of course. Jasper said that Edward had been feeling very guilty, and acting a bit wild.

Edward received another shock when she took his hand to stand. He hadn't been consciously aware that he had offered it to her, but now that she had taken it, he could hardly ignore it. He tried not to think of how soft and warm it was compared to his own cold skin.

He immediately retreated his hand as soon as she stood, stuffing them in his pockets instead. He could hear her thoughts about browsing at the store and almost suggested that she stay behind and do so, before catching himself. If she was as intrigued with Jasper as she was, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to let her on to the fact that they had abilities even beyond their vampiric ones.

Edward stiffened automatically as she whispered in his ear and he had to clench his fists to keep them from doing anything. He gave his head a little shake, not trusting himself to speak before stepping past the piano and hurrying to the door without seeming like he was fleeing.

He knew that he had left Bella a little behind and it was more than a little rude (although, really, worrying about courtesies when he was so close to killing her was almost laughable), but it was necessary. He needed to get some fresh air and fast.

Bella stood behind for a moment, noticing the girls around her laughing at the scene that just unfolded before them. To the outsider, it looked like he had just turned her down for a date or something.

Frowning, she moved forward, letting her long locks fall over her face in semi-embarrassment. She pushed open the door with more force than necessary and looked around for him.

"Edward?" she called out nervously, afraid that he would shun her some more. She caught his bronze hair out of the corner of her eye in a small crowd making their way around the block.

"What's wrong?" she asked when she caught up to him, even though she already knew.
