Yusuke had been sleeping. And puking. And sleeping. And now, sitting at his dinner table with his face on the table. This shit sucked.

But he did hear the knock at the door. And lifted his head up slightly to yell at whoever the fuck was out there knocking.

"Fuck off, I don't want whatever you're selling."

He put his head back down on the table and hoped whoever it was wouldn't bother him anymore. Actually, it was probably that dude from the AMC. Whatever.

In a minute.

Dexter blinked at the muffled response from the other side of the door.

"I'm...here to collect samples."

The man looked at his watch. He wasn't early; he was right on time. And he needed these samples, along with answers to some questions.

And he was hungry. Sighing, Dexter thought to himself about what he'd pick up on his way back to the AMC building as he waited.

Yusuke pushed the chair out, wincing slightly as the legs scraped across the floor. After a second, Yusuke walked over to the door. He was vaguely aware of the fact that he was swaying.

And then he opened the door to that kinda creepy scientist he sometimes saw walking around headquarters. D . . . Dax? Dex. Dexter? Riiiight. Dexter.

"Let's get this shit over with."

He started walking back over to the kitchen table, assuming that the guy would follow and shut the door. Or not, it didn't really matter.

Dexter moved into the apartment upon hearing Yusuke speak, shrugging a shoulder and nodding.

"I'll be quick."

The man did indeed close the door behind himself, and he moved toward the same table.

Dexter had the equipment out and ready within a minute or so, laying down a sterile cloth and all of the needles and containers necessary. He spoke as he finished this setup, glancing at Yusuke.

"I'm going to need tissue and saliva samples in addition to blood, if you don't mind. It's pretty simple, nothing too invasive."

"Tissue like I sneeze in a kleenex or tissue like you're gonna rip a piece of me? Either way, whatever."

It was a somewhat stupid question, but Yusuke asked it anyways because he was inclined to believe that all of the scientists talked in mumbo-jumbo. For all he knew, tissue sample could mean something totally different. The scientist-type liked using all kinds of euphemism shit to say things so a regular guy couldn't understand.

Yusuke held out his arm, "As long as I don't have to answer fucking never-ending questions, whatever."

Dexter smiled, slightly. "'Tissue' as in I'm going to run a piece of metal over your skin to get some cells. The worst of it's the blood sampling, and you look like you can handle a needle."

He pulled on a pair of latex gloves, sterilized Yusuke's inner elbow, and held the needle ready. After Dexter let him know when he was going to do it, he slid the point directly into the vein that he'd found, methodically taking at least 10 vials of blood for different samples. Quickly, cleanly patching him up, he started on the tissue samples.

Dexter glanced at the young man in front of him, lifting his eyebrows.

"All I really need is a description of what happened to you after you took the drug, and time estimates for the things that happened."

He'd be able to analyze any genetic variations using the DNA from the samples.

While the scientist drew blood, Yusuke watched with a kind of bored disinterest. It was a lot of blood. What for was beyond him, but whatever. The guy started doing the scrapey thing when he said the magic words: description of what happened. Fuck if Yusuke knew.

"I took the shit. I was high for . . . Maybe an hour. And then it was puke city. Like, a day of that shit. And then, this fucking hangover from hell without even the benefits of getting drunk. I posted that shit, and then collapsed on this here table."

And that was all he knew. Really. As if a doped guy knew when shit happened.

Dexter nodded as the young man spoke, and as he put some of the other samples away, took a few notes on what Yusuke had to say about the symptoms.

"Alright...thanks. All I need now is for you to take this cotton swab and run it along the inside of your cheek for the saliva sample." He extended a hand with a curious looking thing, like a plastic tube with a q-tip sticking out of it.

After a brief moment, he spoke. Relaxed, but not unsympathetic. "Guessing you still feel hungover right now. That's one hell of a crash."

Yusuke took the q-tip thing that the scientist offered and swiped it along the inside of his mouth. Really. Couldn't he just spit in a little tube or some shit? He held it out for the scientist to take back.

"You could say that. But I accomplished most of what I was hoping for. This fucking hangover is just a fluke."

And it was mostly true. Yusuke set out to find a drug dealer and expose her. And to die. So, that last part was still unaccomplished . . . But at least the first objective was complete. At least the the scientists were happy now.

Dexter took the swab from Yusuke, put everything back together, and started the process of packing his materials after he finished his note-taking.

It was brief, only a page on a small pad of paper.

He blinked upon hearing the man's answer, and lifted his eyes to Yusuke's expression.

"Most of what you were hoping for..?" He wasn't doing it to pry, obviously. It was one of those innocently curious moments.

As innocent as someone like Dexter could be, anyway.
