"The day I can't go farther is the day I'll happily die for it." She sounded annoyed, pouring her own wine after a momentary struggle with the corkscrew. "I will put the gun in my mouth and pull the trigger, because that's the day I won't want to live to see tomorrow. I can't live for ninety years like you; I would be stuck in that mud for the rest of my life. I'd rather die for him than rot for nothing."

Rhode took a long drink, closing her eyes against the slight burn of swallowing. She didn't really understand why people would drink anything but wine; it tasted so much better than all that other stuff. "I don't get attached to people, really. I have a family, though, that I can't let anyone hurt. Not the Family. My family. When his bodyguard died, and Gin left, we used each other. I used him to replace my family. He used me to control, to find his face again. I'm not stupid. It's just using. I'll die protecting him, or something else. Doing something stupid. Being eaten by a giant lizard. And he'll find someone else. But until then, I'm going to get as far as I can. If I don't die, I might actually find myself somewhere. When I do..." She paused, looking at her glass rather curiously.

"When I die, I'll make sure nobody will forget me."

"Hmmm," Prosciutto remarked, his stand fully moving back into a docile state now as he moved up beside her, resting his elbows on the bay with something resembling a smile on his face. She was right. And he couldn't help but find himself a bit chilled by her words. It was something an old, near hopeless old man like himself needed to hear from time to time. The name Lionello Vescovo was as good as dead...but the name Prosciutto was whispered with fear and dread amongst those of the underworld.

"I like the way you think kid...even if that's unlikely as it is...Lord knows I'm never going to forget you."

Rhode looked at him with a rather strange expression, something that could have been regret, though there was something else there- something almost sad. She disappeared behind the counter for a minute, digging for something before standing back up with a glass of Crown Royal. She pushed it across the bar to him with both hands, smiling with the hope that she'd chosen something he'd like.

"I'll ask him tomorrow." She spoke softly, but her tone was light enough she might have been telling him she was asking for a pony. "I don't really want to die. If I do this.... Well, maybe I can get something useful out of it."

He took the bottle and eyed it with a smile. Good stuff, really. Hardly the best but certainly something he'd appreciate. He'd toss a few bills onto the counter later to make up for the damages he did to the place. He may just have ran through all of his owed favors in one night.

"Well, I'm glad we could come to an understanding. I knew you could use that head of yours, kid. What happens from here should be interesting enough AND beneficial to all parties involved," he remarked with a slight chuckle.

"I should go out with you more often. This shit gets fun after a few drinks."

"You didn't need to hit me for it to happen." Her tone was rather grudging as she leaned forward onto the bar, sliding her glass between her hands across the surface. "It's not very fun for me when you're throwing a fit."

Rhode hesitated before asking her next question, glancing up at him carefully to watch his expression. "What will they do, exactly? I'm not sure I want it to be a surprise."

"If it's still the same procedure as it was when they first developed it 50 some odd years ago...they strap you down, expose your systems to the Arrow, and then run tests to see what happens. A good majority of the subjects die, which is why it's so hush hush. Given the advancement of technology, they probably have it a bit more sophisticated now with less chance of death, but whatever...you already know you'll survive," Prosciutto shrugged, describing the process in as much a nonchalant method as he could manage.

Rhode didn't like the sound of that at all, but she kept her face as neutral as she could by taking a drink.

"I don't want to know specifics, do I." The fact that he was being so vague made her more than a little nervous.

"I don't know the gory details...maybe you should ask those kids," Prosciutto said in a much softer tone, hearing the worry on her voice. There wasn't a lot he could say, really. But it may be the only way to get any suspicion off of her.

And, what he didn't want to admit to himself, was that he just wanted her to be safe so she could die the way she wanted to. So she could be someone...

"The guy with the shark is a whiny jerk." She sniffed a bit indignantly, seeming offended at the very thought of talking to him. Pouring herself another glass of wine, she pulled herself up to sit cross-legged on the counter. It was getting easier to do that sort of thing now; she had a feeling she'd been getting a bit taller.

"Well then beat it out of him. It's not like it matters to me how you get the information," Prosciutto mused, once again finding himself want for a cigar. Ah well, at least he had a drink.

"I don't want to be around him." Rhode rolled her eyes. She did not like the guy, period. Even if he was closer to her age than most people in the Family, she would rather spend her time doing something fun. Hanging out with Brian, or reading a book. Something worth her time.
