WHAT: Finding "the man in the shiny suit".
WHERE: Outside Aerith's church.
WHEN: Dusk.
Kai sat quietly, crouched like a small animal near the door of the church. It had been nearly an hour since she had last spoken to the man on the computer, and even though he had warned her that he would be running late, she began to worry whether he'd turn up at all. Uneasy, Kai shifted slightly, wriggling her grimy bare toes on the uneven granite steps. It was getting late and the sun was setting, and Kai could already feel the night chill threatening to crawl beneath her skin. To pass the time, she watched a pretty young girl attempt to sell flowers from a basket. Occasionally a person would stop and smile, but no one would ever buy; most of the time, however, they ignored her -- walking past her, almost through her, as if she were a wisp of smoke. But the girl, resilient in her cheeriness, pressed on and tried again, calling out in a clear bright voice that there were flowers for sale.
Clckcckkck. Kai paused and turned her attention to the large glittering beetle that sat on the back of her hand. It clicked its wings again as if to say something to her. "You naughty thing," she said quietly and waggled a finger at it. "Wanting to hurt the nice flower girl. Never done a thing to you ever in your life. Nasty, naughty thing."
