WHO: Red X and Kairi
WHAT: A late-night meeting
WHERE: Kairi's place
WHEN: Wednesday, late evening

Something was wrong.

Something was wrong, and Kairi wasn't okay, and even if he could get it out of her online, he didn't want to. He didn't want to because he wouldn't be able to make it okay with just some words on a screen. Even a phonecall seemed too distant.

Maybe he was rushing into things. Maybe this was something he should stay out of. Maybe this was something that her new old friend could have handled more easily or better than he could have. But these doubts only flickered across his mind as he suited up and sent himself hurtling across the rooftops, using the suit for the first time since the Guild had left Reggio Calabria.

He had been gone a long time, he knew that. But the problem was here now, and so was he, so he intended to fix it. Kairi probably didn't like it too much, wanted to handle things on her own. But just like she hadn't left him alone that one night, even though he really would have rather she not see him like that, he was doing the same for her, because he knew, even if he was embarrassed to admit it, he had needed her that night. Maybe she didn't need him tonight. But he wasn't about to run the risk.

Using the suit winded him more than he expected, and definitely more than usual, but it got him there quickly, and his manual-dexterity, still suffering a little from the blowback, wasn't necessary to teleport him to her place. So, finally, he let the nanites recede into his belt buckle and watch as he landed on her rooftop, leaving him in jeans and a red T-shirt. Casual, but he had just thrown on what was fast and in reach.

Taking the stairs down from the roof to her floor, he moved to the door, pausing for a second. This was his last chance to turn back, if he was about to find out someting he didn't want to, which was what Kairi was implying.

He knocked anyway. What he didn't want be damned. She needed him.
