Neku has the canon ability to "scan" people - ie, if he focuses, he can read whatever passing thought is on the surface of someone's mind. If someone has a more intense worry or prevailing thought, that's what he'll be able to see. Certain people with a high resonance are un-scannable (Reapers, ESPers, and so on are not readable)
