I almost feel bad about missing Eiri's birthday last Saturday, but not really. While I do have a doll (two, actually, with a mini planned) to represent the character, the fact remains that Eiri is a cartoon character and really doesn't give a shit because he's not real, and if he WAS real, he wouldn't give a shit. Eiri is a grumpypuss about birthdays, and about a lot of other things, too.
My big Eiri doll has a lapful of Shuichi now so he doesn't care - he's happy. Chibi Eiri is currently wearing a blue hat with bunny ears, looking extra-pissy, so he's too angry to care, while Chibi Shu is happy with his pink bunny ears hat and ready to pounce on his bunny lover because Chibi Eiri is so crankycute. Shindo's Yuki hasn't even been ordered yet so he doesn't care. He's just a vat of liquid resin.
I think having the Gravi dolls coupled helps me not care - it's like their little inanimate resin bodies are 'holding' some of that information so I don't have to think about it anymore and they celebrate together so I let them handle it. When I only had Shuichi, I celebrated his birthday - it was right after I got him so I was still on the first doll thrill high. Poor kid didn't get a birthday last year, but he was too depressed (as was I) about Eiri not being there like I promised so he didn't care about any celebration. With Eiri home now, Shu rarely leaves Eiri's lap, so they are both content. The Chibs are happy together, and Shindo hasn't a clue, as usual. It's so fun having a completely ditzy doll.
Some of my dolls won't give up their birthday dates to me anyway, so I don't worry about them. Trans, Kane and Bodkin stay mum about it. I suppose being centuries-old does that to you. I know we're not big on birthdays anymore, either.
You would think I would know Hatori's birthday, since he's an established character, but his creator only gave his Western Zodiac sign in his profile (Cancer) so all I know is his birthday falls somewhere between June 21 and July 22. Hatori doesn't care about his birthday, either, so that makes it easy for me.
Chikara's birthday is Oct. 31st but he's too busy causing extra amounts of chaos on Halloween to bother - he thinks his present is getting into more mischief than usual that day. Every single day is his birthday in his mind.
Nasake is about a month older than Chikara (remember, they have different mothers) so it's sometime in September. Nasake gives me a disgusted look if I mention the word birthday so I don't sweat him, either.
The big present day for everyone is Xmas. I really need to get those photos worked up sometime...
So, no, I don't feel guilty about missing Eiri's birthday.
