Jan 06, 2008 20:21

We went to the Ded Lobster the other day and Chikara tagged along.

C: The waitress wanted to give me a booster chair and a kiddy menu!

o: So you feel special, huh, silly kitty?

Well, if you say something like msd-sized, you can usually get away with that without people mentioning the copyright issue. We all pretty much use both those terms and the cm height, too. Tohma is considered Dollshe-sized or Hound-sized since Dollshe was the first company to make the tall dolls. He can also be called 70cm. I am hoping an all-around term for these taller-than-typical-SD-sized dolls will be coined in the near future, especially since more companies are coming out with these dolls.

Chikara is a little taller than the standard msd-sized doll, which is 42-43cm. Yes, he's 45cm and most of that comes from his long legs. This means standard msd-sized pants are WAY too short for him. msd-sized shorts and shirts work fine so I can still get many pieces of clothing for him. He even has some Volks clothing!

Here is Chikara with an official Volks MSD Rock. You can really see how much longer the DZ doll's legs are compared to the MSD. The torsos are about the same length. The MSD hands are a little more child-like, too. The DZ minis are considered mature msd-sized dolls.

The inexpensive Friends2bMade clothing he usually wears (what he's wearing in restaurant photoshoot, and the pants in the above photo, too) never fits correctly but looks cute on him. Those funky long shorts are really long pants for the shorter f2bm plush dolls and most of the boy shirts are really baggy.

Wifey could probably do some simple PJ pants for Tohma, using the measurements I gave her for Eiri. However, she doesn't have a 70cm doll to work from to confidently make zipped pants with pockets. 70cm dolls usually have slightly wider hips and shoulders and longer arms, legs and torsos. My suggestion? Start looking around for people who sew for 70cm dolls. Also, since you will not be getting Tohma immediately, some people will have the DoI boys before you do and will do your experimenting for you. I bet some of the Dollshe and Model Doll clothing will fit that size. Male Model Dolls (Eiri) have extra-long arms so check the DOI measurements before purchasing long-sleeved shirts for Tohma. However, I bet the Female Model Doll shirts will work!

CheeryDoll has nice clothing but it may not be your Tohma's style:

DollHeart mix and match undies are good:

Note to you - depending on the cut, some clothing items you don't think will fit a 70cm will, such as tank tops and underwear. The tops might be a little short in length, but that would work for a JPop star. I dress Shuichi in girl tank tops so they are skin-tight and his belly shows.

I also purchase a lot from specific eBay sellers, but we can talk about that later.

What colour eyes are you planning for Tohma, brown or teal? It's interesting his official manga eye colour is black, which really means brown to the Japanese.

WOW!

I just got a crash course in what all those terms mean! Domoarigato! ^_^

Right now, I'm still looking around for clothes, I wasn't planning on seriously looking until I had at least $100 saved for him. All of your advice I'm going to take seriously to heart, and bookmark this page as well!

I'm going to do the anime versions of Nittle Grasper, as I love the hair and eye colors given to everyone. I've already found a place that I might get Tohma's eyes from, but I'm still trying to figure out the pupil size, as I want him to look like the facial pic I sent you on DoA. The same with Ryuichi, I want larger pupils to give him the more childlike look, even though he's eventually going to end up with a different head.

Where did you find out what Tohma's manga stats were, or did you just look at his pic? Maybe I'll do both the manga versions and the anime versions of Nittle Grasper...that would be interesting!

I simply LOVE Luts' Shiwoo, and that smirk gets me every time! He would be perfect for a maybe a younger Ryuichi, or maybe even Tohma! Imagine Nittle Grasper when they were first starting out, and then currently, as rock superstars! *fangirl squeeeeee*

Either way, I'm going to end up with a Shiwoo! ^_^

Here I am planning 4 dolls now and I haven't even gotten my first!

I know that! *laughs*

You know, just changing the faceup of a doll can change the look from cute to slightly dangerous. I could see you with two Shiwoo heads, one innocent and one stage. Just look at how different eyebrow shapes change the same face.

These are Mini Fee Shiwoo elves. The Mini Fee Shiwoo has a slightly wider face, more like the original Shiwoo.

The stats are found at the most dependable place for that information - Gravitation.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting mini versions of them, too.

...too late!

I already decided that I'm going to do Nittle Grasper as they were just starting out, and then as they are now, older and wiser. In other words, smaller/younger versions! I still want a Shiwoo Ryuichi!

The others will be found, but I'm not looking right now...or so I'm trying to convince myself anyway!
