It was only a week or so until Hayley's trial, and she was getting anxious. She'd been denied bail on account of being a 'flight risk'. Where was she going to run, she thought

Telephone calls were no substitute for seeing someone in person. And while Hinata was aware that she'd racked up some truly ungodly phone bills in the last week, that was nothing more than small change.
The portal was not much more than that. Her largest concern in managing the visit, Yei, had been taken care of by Warren. He'd agreed to take her for the night. Hinata made a note that she owed him and moved on.
When she was ushered in to see Hayley, it was not exactly the quiet, shy girl she normally was who faced her. It was the calm, still quiet, but absolutely competent heiress.
At least, until they were left as alone as they were going to get in the visitation room.
"Hayley," she said, smiling because it was either smile or be angry and she wouldn't be angry in front of Hayley. "It is good to see you."
[Yei foisted off on Warren with permission omigod.]
"You're welcome," she said, taking a seat with a squeak of the chair. "But I will not have you attempt to pay me back, do you understand? I do this because you're a friend."
"I don't know if I could ever really pay you back," Hayley said, folding her hands in her lap so she didn't try to reach out to her friend. She didn't want to get in trouble. "This means so much even beyond just the money it costs."
"Just visiting is nice," Hayley said. "Luckily being in here means I don't have to see Dr. Nygma anymore. That guy really was starting to skeeve me out, you know?"
Hayley wretched. "Oh, ew," she said. "If he ever tried I would knock his block off."
She shuddered. "He always reminded me of the type of sleaze that'd go to those places where the ladies take all their clothes off when they dance. Like that Scratching Post club that they said Batwoman secretly danced at."
"I would not like such a man to be in the position he was," she said, frowning. "Though I am very glad that reminding you of a--sleaze," the word felt awkward on her lips, "was the worst of it."
Hayley nodded. "I just didn't like the way he knew how to ask all the questions to make me feel bad about what had happened. Even if its been such a long time and everything."
"I guess he needed to know how I felt as opposed to how I feel now. I guess," Hayley said, looking down at the table. "It kinda makes me wonder how I ever thought that stuff."

"Thanks for everything you're doing. I'd be lost without you right now, Hinata. I mean it."

"That was uncalled for," Hinata agreed. "Though I imagine some of the questions would have come up no matter who gave them."

"It means you've grown a great deal since then, that you wonder that," Hinata offered. "You have changed a lot, Hayley."
