It's Been A While (One-Shot)

Summary: It’s been a while since Kyuhyun remembered.

A/n: I was listening to “Let Me Be The One” by SS501, after watching BOF for the nth time. And so this was inspired by a random gathering of things. ^^ [[I'm also very sorry for puttinging Kyuhyun in another accident. it's just watching SH made me so depressed and well depressed creates this...]]
Three AM, Saturday morning. Sungmin sits on the ground in the brightly lighted hospital corridor and thinks back to yesterday morning, the day where everything changed.
Their performance was amazing. They won as well. After their congratulatory lunch, Sungmin went with Ryeowook, Yesung, and Eunhyuk back to their dorm. Their ride back was full of laughter. Sungmin went into his and Kyuhyun’s shared room and immediately fell asleep. He woke up to their manager screaming and yelling; telling everyone to get dressed and go into the van. The first thing he thought was that he slept through his alarm clock, but when he looked at the clock it was 2:45 AM. “No, our schedule doesn’t start until 5 AM.” Nonetheless he got dressed, and hurried down to the van along with all the other members.
Only when the van stopped did Sungmin realize Kyuhyun was not in the van. He vaguely remembered that Kyuhyun said he was going somewhere after the performance, by himself.

“Kyu? Where are you going? Everyone is going for lunch, why aren’t you coming?”
“Minnie hyung, I just need to go somewhere. Don’t worry about me I’ll be back tonight. Don’t forget about tomorrow though!” Kyuhyun said before giving his hyung a quick kiss on the cheek as he ran out towards the parking lot and hopped into his car.

Only when the van stopped in front of the emergency entrance of the hospital did Sungmin realize that he knew something was wrong. He blinked and saw reporters outside the hospital and his managers fighting the reporters off. Sungmin and the other members walked inside the hospital, all of them already expecting the worse, despite their half awake mood. Their manager gathered all of the members together and stood in silence for a moment that felt like never ending.

“Kyuhyun, he’s been an accident. It’s not life threatening but…” The manager trailed off when he saw Leeteuk collapsing into one of the plastic waiting benches. Ryeowook was gripping onto Sungmin’s arm to keep himself up. Eunhyuk had already broken into endless tears and was being comforted by a similarly looking Donghae. Heechul was blank, his face was emotionless. And Sungmin, he was in disbelief. He didn’t feel Ryeowook’s grip, he didn’t see the members crying, he, himself was frozen with shock.
“But he is in a state of unconsciousness.” The manager continued and ended with the few words.
The members walked with heavy footsteps towards the room at the end of the hall. Sungmin saw the name on the door.
-Cho Kyuhyun-
His Cho Kyuhyun, his Cho Kyuhyun who was lying on the white hospital bed with bandages around his head, and his eyes closed in a gentle sleep. Sungmin did not approach the bed right away. Unlike the others, he stood at the end of the bed. As far away as possible, until Leeteuk looked over and pulled Sungmin into the chair beside the bed.
Sungmin stared at the resting figure on the bed and then at that moment did he begin to cry. His tears fell one after another. The other members had stepped aside and let Sungmin be alone with his unconscious lover. Sungmin tenderly picked up Kyuhyun’s hand and held it to his own cheeks.
“Kyuhyun, why? Why are you so unlucky? What have you done to have to receive a third chance? Why? Was your second chance to live not enough? Answer me Kyuhyun!” Sungmin continued to cry throughout the dark, rainy night.

That was three AM yesterday morning. Now it was three in the afternoon. Sungmin sat outside Kyuhyun’s room and waits for the nurses to finish tending to Kyuhyun. He had not slept, he had not changed, he had not eaten. He had sat beside Kyuhyun’s bed and waited. Praying that his Kyuhyun would open his eyes. Sungmin walked back into the room and replaced himself in the chair.
“Kyuhyunnie, it’s been twelve hours since you said my name. Wake up, Kyu. Wake up.” Sungmin held Kyuhyun’s hand yet again.

“Super Junior’s Cho Kyuhyun was in an accident last night. His car lost control on and slid on the wet roads. The car flipped and crashed into the roadside ditch.”
Leeteuk and the other members watched the news report and sat in the waiting room down the hall. They could not believe this. Another accident, why?

Sungmin went into and basically lived in the hospital for the next few weeks. He sat closely beside Kyuhyun, holding his hand, and talking to the still sleeping figure. At times he would quietly sing to Kyuhyun, and at other times he would simply wait, wait for Kyuhyun to awake.
“Kyuhyunnie, it’s been fourteen days since you said my name. Wake up, Kyu. Wake up. I love you Kyu. Please, I beg of you wake up.”
The members were standing outside listening to Sungmin’s pleads to the lifeless Kyuhyun. Siwon and many others were praying deeply, hoping for Kyuhyun to wake up.
Almost like it was magic, Kyuhyun’s fingers began to move. His eyelids began to flutter.
“Kyuhyun? KYUHYUN!” Sungmin shouted, which alarmed the others, and as well the doctors.
“He’s awake!”
“Kyuhyun’s waking up!”
The members had gathered around Kyuhyun after the doctors checked for no problems.
“Leeteuk hyung, Heechul hyung. Ryeowookie! Hae! Hyuk! Yesung hyung! Siwon hyung! Shindong hyung!” Kyuhyun looked around and happily called out each and every member. But when his eyes settled on Sungmin sitting beside his bed did his eyes fill with confusion.
“W-who are you?” He asked the dazed Sungmin who was still holding his hand.
“I’m S-s-sungmin. Kyuhyun, I’m Sungmin. D-do you not remember?” Sungmin flinched when Kyuhyun flung his hand away.
“No, I’m sorry I don’t know you. Should I know you?” Kyuhyun looked around at the other members who were equally stunned searching for an answer.
Sungmin who had stood up and stumbled out of the hospital room in broken sobs and fell on to the nearest bench.
“How could Kyuhyun forget me? Just how?!” Sungmin thought furiously.
The rest of the members inside the room had stood in minutes of silence staring at Kyuhyun, who was staring back with deep confusion.

“Sungmin? Maybe I do know him. But how?” Kyuhyun had thought every time when he saw Sungmin’s face back at the dorms after he was discharged from the hospital three weeks later.
Sungmin was a mess. He walked out of his room and into the kitchen, not bothering where he was looked.
“Cho Kyuhyun it’s been thirty five days since you said my name. Remember me Kyu. Remember me.” Sungmin muttered just before he turned the corner and ran into a tall figure.
Kyuhyun looked down and saw a tired out Sungmin who fell onto the floor after running into him.
“Oh sorry hyung. Are you okay?”
Sungmin only nodded in stillness and sadness.

Later that day as Kyuhyun was walking out the rehearsal studio he stopped suddenly. As if that run in with Sungmin was the hammer that hit the bell in his head, bits of memories came flashing back at fast speeds.
“Kyu? Where are you going? Everyone is going for lunch, why aren’t you coming?”
“Minnie hyung, I just need to go somewhere. Don’t worry about me I’ll be back tonight. Don’t forget about tomorrow though!” Kyuhyun said before giving his hyung a quick kiss on the cheek as he ran out towards the parking lot and hopped into his car.
It was their anniversary. Kyuhyun was going out to pick up his hyung’s favourite wine from the winery before heading back and celebrating with his Sungmin.
Kyuhyun sudden stop had alerted Eunhyuk who was walking just a bit behind him.
“Kyuhyun-ah are you alright?”
“Yeah. I’m alright. But can we stop by the wine store first? I want to pick up something.” Kyuhyun smiled at his other hyung.
As soon as Kyuhyun and Eunhyuk arrived back at the dorms after buying a bottle of wine, Kyuhyun ran into his shared room to find Sungmin playing his guitar.
“Sungmin. Sungminnie. Min. Minnie hyung.”
Sungmin looked up at the familiar and long missing voice calling his name, tears instantly brimming.
“Sungmin, I remembered.” Kyuhyun smiled as he held up the bottle of wine. “Did you forget out anniversary?”
The older stood up and wrapped his arms around Kyuhyun’s neck, and smiled as Kyuhyun pressed his lips against his hyung’s cheeks.
“Kyuhyun, it’s been a long time you know, since you said my name. You remembered. You remember me.” Sungmin cried out happy tears.
“I can never forget you hyung. You are my Sungminnie, my Min, my Minnie hyung. Sungmin, you are my Sungmin.”
The bottle of wine left untouched as Sungmin and Kyuhyun spent the night cuddled together, retelling the unforgotten memories.
“Sungmin, you are my Sungmin.”
