IC Information:

Name: Cú Chulainn, more commonly known as Lancer

Fandom: Fate/Stay Night

Timeline: Post death in the Unlimited Blade Works route

Age: Although his date of birth was several thousand years ago, he appears to be roughly thirty

Appearance: Lancer stands a smidgen above six foot (185 cm) and weighs 150 pounds (70kg). In combat, he wears a blue jumpsuit that tends to cling to his body. He is well muscled, but not in the bulky sense. Think more of a runner's body than a weight lifter. The only real form of protection he has is his steel shoulder pauldrons, although he has other bits of steel armor on his body. He has red eyes and messy blue hair. His ears are pierced. While not in combat, he wears casual clothes. His lance, the Gae Bolg, is a red spear that's a few inches longer than he is. Both ends of the spear are tipped with blades.

For those of you who would prefer a picture I have one righthere.

Abilities: Lancer is a Heroic Spirit, that is to say a hero who ascended to a higher plane of existence upon their death. Normally they can not be summoned to this world, but through the power of the Holy Grail they can be brought into the world. The Holy Grail supplies the massive amount of mana, and the Master summons them. The Heroic Spirit then becomes the Servant of the Master, and together they fight to obtain the Holy Grail. The Master supplies mana to their Servant which sustains them, and in return the Servant fights for the Master. Their contract is represented by three marks on the Master's hand. These marks are known as the Command Spell. The Master can use a Command Spell in order to force the Servant to obey a command that they usually wouldn't obey. Command Spells can also be used to break the laws of physics. For example of a Servant and a Master are separated by a great distance such as several miles, the Master can use a Command Spell and order the Servant to come. Rather than having to travel the distance, the Command Spell will distort the space time continuum and instantly bring the Servant to the Master.

Each Servant has a Noble Phantasm which is a representation of the hero. For most Servants this is a weapon or special technique, and Lancer falls into this category. His Noble Phantasm is the Gae Bolg, a large red lance. The Noble Phantasm has two special techniques. The first is the Piercing Lance of Death Thorns. This technique causes the opponent's heart to be pierced no matter what. It works by reversing the law of cause and effect. Because the heart is pierced, the lance is thrust. It's impossible to dodge once the lance is thrust due to the fact that the pierced heart is a foregone conclusion. The best defense against such a technique is to not let him thrust at all. If he does thrust, the only way to dodge is not to be extremely fast, but rather to be extremely lucky or be able to manipulate fate. The target itself does not have to be the heart but rather can be any target. However against an opponent the heart is generally chosen due to how fatal a blow is.

The second technique is the Thrusting Lance of Death Flight. In this technique, Lancer leaps up into the sky and hurls Gae Bolg at his opponent. Unlike the other technique, this one emphasizes attack power over aiming and attempts to destroy entire enemy units in a single blow. If the Death Thorn is a bullet, then the Death Throw is an explosion. It strikes an opponent, no matter how many times it is dodged. At it's height, it can target up to fifty people.

Lancer also doesn't give up easily. He's part god, which makes him extremely powerful. Even on the verge of death, he can still fight. Even after taking a deadly blow he can stay alive for several minutes. His strength and speed are also extraordinary, and he is capable of leaping a hundred meters. He doesn't have the best luck though.

In addition to this, Lancer has some magical attributes of his own. Minor magical spells won't work against him, and he's capable of casting spells of his own using magical ability.

Personality: What defines Lancer the most is his sense of loyalty and duty. Once he makes a promise, he's always sure to follow through. He doesn't take well to traitors, and in his eyes a man is only as good as his word. Even if his oaths put him at a disadvantage, he always follows through with them. He has a strong sense of dignity. He has a hard time killing innocent unarmed people, and refuses to kill women. He appreciates these qualities in others, and he can't get along well with a coward or a liar. If a person has no pride or dignity, Lancer won't tolerate them. By Lancer's standards, there's nothing worse than a traitor.

That's not to say he's above bending the rules. If he's told to do something he doesn't agree with personally, he'll try to find a way around it. For example, his master ordered him to kill Archer. Archer was already supposed to fight another man, and he himself was already weakened. Lancer figured that Archer was going to die either way, so his orders were meaningless. Archer had kidnapped a girl known as Rin Tohsaka, who Lancer highly respected, so he went to go free her while Archer was fighting another man. As far as Lancer was concerned, his order had been completed.

Outside of battle, Lancer is fairly casual. There's no formalities to his language, and he speaks plainly and clearly. If someone is being stupid, he'll tell them that. Some would say he's brash and arrogant with his words, and while there is some truth to that he's simply being honest. While he'll never betray his allies, he's perfectly willing to point out their flaws. If he would rather be cooperating with another person, he'll state that as well.

Lancer has an extremely sharp wit, always having a snappy comeback on hand. He tends about to joke about everything, even in rather dire situations. He can use his wit to make light of a rather grim situation, or turn it against his enemies

History: Cú Chulainn, being a mythological figure, doesn't have a set birth date and most of his history is vague. What is known is that he was the son of a mortal woman named Dechtire and the deity Leigh. His birth name was Sétanta, but he later adopted the name of Cú Chulainn. He decided to do this after slaying the hound of Culann. Sétanta promised Culann to replaced the slain dog until another one was raised. Cú is the Celtic word for hound, hence his adopted name

Later on he traveled to the Land of Shadows in Scotland. There he trained under the powerful sorceress Scáthach and obtained his signature weapon Gae Bolg. He also learned magic during that time. While he was a well meaning man, his ferocity in battle was unmatched. Eventually his opponents conspired against him. Throughout his lifetime, Cú Chulainn swore several geas. Geas are powerful Celtic oaths that weaken the person who swore the oath if they are broken. Through trickery and deceit, his opponents forced him to break all of his Geas until he was weak enough to be killed in battle. Although mortally wounded, he refused to die laying down and tied himself to a post so that he could die while standing up.

Thousands of years later, his spirit was summoned to fight in the Holy Grail war. The Holy Grail is a massively powerful magical object capable of granting a wish. It supplies mana to Masters who then use that Mana to summon a Heroic Spirit as a special kind of familiar known as a Servant. The Master and Servant then fight together against six other Masters and Servants. The last one standing wins the Holy Grail and has their wish granted.

At first, Cú Chulainn was summoned as Lancer by Bazett Fraga McRemitz who represented the Magus Association in Ireland. However a priest known as Kotomine Kirei killed Bazett and forced Lancer to follow him by taking her command spell. Although Lancer hated Kirei, he had no choice but to obey him due to the fact that he had a command spell. Kirei's first order was to go out and test all of the other Servants in battle but not to slay them. For someone like Lancer who enjoyed the thrill of battle, it was the worst order as he had to hold himself back in combat.

During his battle with Servant Archer, Lancer noticed a kid named Emiya Shirou watching them. As the laws of the grail war stated that any witnesses must be killed, Lancer stabbed Shirou in the heart. However Archer's master, Rin Tohsaka, revived Shirou using her most powerful magical jewl. Lancer learned that Shirou was still alive, and staged an attack on Shirou's house. However he was repelled when Shirou summoned Servant Saber.

Later on, Servant Caster attacks Kirei in his church. Kirei fakes his death and flees. As Caster was becoming extremely powerful, Kirei ordered Lancer to team up with Shirou and Rin in order to beat the witch. Saber had been captured by Caster and was slowly being drained of her will and would soon become a puppet of Caster. Meanwhile Archer had betrayed Rin for his own reasons and teamed up with Caster. Rin, Shirou, and Lancer assault the church that Caster had made her base. Lancer fights Archer, but their duel ends in a stalemate.

Lancer reappears later on and lends his aid to Shirou and Saber after Archer kidnaps Rin. Shirou and Saber deal with Archer while Lancer heads off to find Rin. Upon finding her, Kirei reveals himself and orders Lancer to kill Rin. As Lancer pretty much hates Kirei and is crushing on Rin, he refuses and tells Kirei he'd need to use a command spell to force him to do it. Kirei uses his command spell, but uses it to force Lancer to stab himself in the heart with his lance. As he is dying, Lancer kills Kirei, frees Rin, and sets the castle they were in on fire.

Roleplay Sample - Log: Lancer smiled, resting his back against the tree trunk. While the biodome was by no means expansive, it wasn't exactly cramped either. The air was certainly more fresher than the air inside the facility, and the color was nice compared to the monotone gray scale. He grimaced a little as he took a bite of his food bar. Disgusting. He spat it out.

No. While this place was nice, it was far from his ideal world. Those that could not appreciate the beauty of nature would feel right at home in this place. People like Servant Archer. That coward would enjoy the lack of color. He never seemed the one to be able to understand beauty. His ideal world was probably one of dulled browns only accented by steel. A mechanical wasteland that only the twisted could find pleasure in.

He shook his head, dismissing the negative thoughts. Dwelling on such things was a waste of time. Pushing himself up, he walked across the biodome, aiming for the river. A swim would be an interesting way to divert
Roleplay Sample - Journal: [ The screen flares to life, revealing a confident looking man with blue hair. He is totally shirtless and flaunting his lean, muscled physique. ]

Attention everyone. I need all the hot ladies named Rin Tohsaka to line up on the left for makeouts. Cowardly men known as Servant Archer should line up on the right for beatdowns.

That is all.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?

Physical torture would most likely not phase Lancer unless it was extreme. He has an extremely strong will, and physical means would be the least productive way to break him. He's been a fighter all of his life, and he's used to pain. He's also a demigod with extreme strength and endurance, so it would take a long time to break him like that.

Psychological attacks would be more effective, but not by much. Possibly one of the easiest ways to break him would be to either work off his ferocity in battle or to have someone he trusts betray him. In a fight he can sometime have a hard time to distinguish between friend and foe. If he were to accidentally wound or kill someone he trusts, then it would upset him greatly. Likewise if one of his friends were to betray him, sell him out, or otherwise abandon him.
