well, i'm a little behind so this will be the best compilation of everything i can remember, though maybe not in the right order! starting with...
so day two started with the beach. it was a gorgeous day and perfect for salt water and tanning. that's where we saw the iguana, it was honetly huge. at least 2 1/2 feet. he just hung out on the balcony and ate lettuce while we had lunch. then after a little more swimming i was ready for a pina colada, my favourite part about the caribbean. alex and i each had a very large, strong drink, got picked up by mirek (that's his dad, going on first name from now on) and were off. we stopped at this little milkshake hut with alcoholic milkshakes... brilliant. kimie, you would appreciate the banana one i had. we went next to emerald beach, a resort where mirek was fixing some computers, and alex and i had time to kill. drinks were on mirek's tab, so they handed us a couple double rum and cokes which we drank sitting on the beach at dusk. after that we sat by the pool and just enjoyed the evening and the waterfall. i remember a strawberry daquri and a vodka water lime, so by the time we left we were rather drunk. dinner time was next, at tavern by the waterfront, the restraunt owned by the family we saw on day 1. we finished off two more vodka waters each and i had some incredible chicken. we met a bartended there who was sweet and had lovely dreads, and we might be going to hang out with her and her people tonight. (this is where i leave blanks about some island "greenery" which only added to my complete incoherancy in livejournal land later that night.)
so tuesday was going to be a downtown day, but lines got crossed so we detoured to havensight, the port where the cruise ships come in. just a little shop browsing and things there, some good old KFC, and far too many jewelery stores. we went up to paradise point, which is a really beautiful point on the island with an amazing view. the bar up there is famous for bushwhackers, a really intense drink with about a million kinds of booze. so of course i had one. :D alex had a long chat with a performer there, we browsed a little and headed back down. it was already pretty late so we grabbed a movie ("shaolin soccer", a hilarious japanese movie). but the day wouldn't be complete without more swimming at the emerald, so we made sure to have a swim in the pool and a vodka water before going home to watch the movie.
today we actually got ourselves up nice and early, by 10! we went right downtown for browsing the stores, which was a whole morning worth of fun. the jewelery stores are crazy... so many sparkly things. alex knows a guy who owns one of the huge ones too, which is neat. lots of browsing and not buying things and then sandwiches at this nice little place for lunch. there was a guy with a donkey yelling "who wants to get on my ass!" crazy islanders. so after exploring all the little corridors and stores and buying very little, we grabbed a bus to another part on the island. here we mostly just checked out all the ridiculously cheap booze in k-mart. haha. a 26er of absolute for like $8. we're stocking up on the way home. we made a point to sit in mcdonalds and mooch of the free refills because the heat was starting to get to me, and i eventually whined enough that alex hopped us on a bus back to emerald. we spent a long afternoon on the beach and a fish befriended me. it would just circle me over and over and found me wherever i went. we've come back home now, had some chicken and cooled off. not sure what the plan for the evening is, but i'm sure you will hear about it tomorrow no matter what.
much caribbean love and rum,
laura
