i feel like i have to journal this trip or i will never remember everything.
and since i didn't bring a paper journal, into here it goes.
yesterday i saw 4 airports. started at YYZ, with out flight delayed over an hour. one quick trip and we were in chicago and the infamous o'hare. some really mediocre mcnuggets and another hour delay. a longer flight this time, slept a lot. landed in miami! flight delayed... again. we were supposed to be leaving at 7:15 but we were rescheduled until 8:50. went in search of food and ended up eating the -worst- manchu wok ever. eeeyyyuuuck. met a couple from nebraska who egged us on to sing and play alex's guitar. the final flight was another 2 hours of drifting and waiting. finally landed around 11:30. i was so scared our luggage wouldn't transfer all the flights, but there it was! the island is so beautiful and hilly... not a piece of flat land anywhere. so we taxied in the dark up what seemed like mountains and finally hit mirek's (that's alex's dad). we surprised him; alex didn't tell him we were coming. but he was happy to see us. the place is small, cute, just the right size. "our bed has it's own area code." of course after a little sitting around and chatting we crashed and slept a full 12 hours until...
today at 2 pm. booooy that sleep was needed. woke up and hung around a little, enjoyed the afternoon and the daytime view (wowey). found out that there's a camera hooked up on the balcony that broadcasts always, so when i get the IP address for that i'll make sure to put it up. we drove down the mountain listening to my iTrip and ate pizza hut. no cruise ships came in today so all the stores are closed and the island is pretty quiet. we picked a couple of alvacado right off the tree and they're waiting to ripen in the kitchen. we can get bananas too, and mangos, which i'm most excited about. then it was to a friend's place, which is at one of the hightest points on the island. gorgeous house. admired the little gekos lots and listened to the chatter of the funny little 6 year old boy. he wanted to tell us everything. he eventually started beating on alex which was funny considering the size comparison. just a beautiful house with a beautiful view and a nice evening listening to everyone around me speak polish, alex included. i like it though, i like listening and seeing if i can pick out anything.
so now i sit after having some steak with a corona by my side and my hair pushed back from the wind and my sweat. it's lovely. alex has a headache so he's napping in the area code bed but the house is nice and breezy. i'm going to go read and drift to sleep... island heat makes you sleepy.
so far it's amazing, i've been floating around with a buzz. tomorrow: beach.
with love and adventures,
laru
