7th Song [Audio]

Aug 03, 2010 03:50

[It's late. Maybe late enough for some of the younger folk to have slipped off to dreamland for the night. But someone who, normally, would have been sound asleep, is sitting in her room. Wide awake.]

I'm a little curious... What sort of dreams do you dream of often? Do you dream of your homes?

[She has. Many times already. Perhaps she would have ( Read more... )

[Herz's sleep-cycle may be all over the place, but he still makes a point to get some fresh-air. He's always been an outdoorsie type, but the whole black-eyes thing is a hell of a hindrance. It's become a habit to hit the top deck only once the moon's risen. At least with the sun down, he doesn't have to worry about those stupid sunglasses. And! The added bonus of a clear deck means he can comfortably indulge in shitty fantasy novels without getting stupidly self-conscious.

So, there the Kansan sits, a cigarette in one hand and a thick paperback in the other, so lost in the words he doesn't even hear if anyone approaches. Kinda makes all his worrying over who sees him reading what a lil' useless, huh?]

[What was irritating for Giselle, if she could place it, was that her normal sleep-cycle wasn't behaving like it should. Normally she'd be early to bed, early to rise, but in the past few days... She'd been staying up later and later, leaving her to actually start to sleep in. Not terrible, but it was uncomfortable for a morning person.

None the less; Giselle wanted fresh air. She wanted to see the stars, rumors of them being artificial or not. They looked real. The fresh air was real enough. Real enough for her. So up she went, wandering the top deck for a good dozen minutes before she even realized she wasn't the only night-owl. Though to be perfectly honest, it had been the cigarette smoke that had her nose wrinkling in displeasure. But was it rude to ask someone to just... put it out? It was stinking up the whole place, in her opinion.

But.]

E-Excuse me? [Leaaaaan. Shoulder tap.]

Wha--?

[Herz jerks, snapping back to look at whoever touched him (without his goddamn permission). He snaps his book shut around his thumb and actually considers smothering his cigarette out in the ashtray right then and there. He'd thought he'd been alone.]

I--

I--I-I--

I-I'm sorry. What? Yes?

[Well if you'd gone and done that, she might have just left you alone! But since no one is that lucky.]

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to startle you-- I was just wondering if-- Maybe you could-- If you could... Maybe.. [She motioned at his cig, almost with a little 'shooing' motion.] Not... Smoke?

[That was too much of an assumption, wasn't it? You don't just tell people to not smoke. He was outside, for goodness sake.]

I'm sorry, it's just-- The smell is very strong. If-- I can go, if you'd really rather not.

[Alrighty then. Now that we've officially screwed this up.]

[His woman!radar was just pinged!]

I dream of the day I might meet the fairest flower of all existence, and that she may finally end my eternal quest to find the meaning of true love.

[You're good at this thing, aren't you. She just about choked in glee.]

What a lovely dream! I'm sure it will come true for you-- If you believe in it, it will happen~ Everyone has a true love, after all.

[Surprisingly, that's the first time it ever worked...]

I believe in the power of love and peace overcoming all obstacles and turning the world into a shining, beautiful place to live!

... Almost as beautiful as you, fair lady.

[Except he has no idea what she looks like, but a little flattery can't hurt.]

[Well aren't you lucky? Finding the one girl who would swoon to such words.]

Oh, yes! I agree absolutely! [Excuse the minor splutter]

M-Me? I don't know if I could ever compare to a world full of peace and love.. But thank you none the less.

[Aw look, you made her blush! Not that you can see it, technically.]

...Nightmares.

[Beat.]

From home.

N-Nightmares? Oh dear... [Pause] Well, I've heard drinking a warm glass of milk before bed qualms such things? I haven't had one in a long, long time, but I know they're dreadful!

Sometimes talking about it helps too...

[There's a long silence, then Vincent smiles just a little. Just a little. How very...naive.]

I don't sleep often. When I do, I have nightmares. It's been that way for more than thirty years. There's no way to fix it.

[He didn't have any nightmares the entire time he was physically twenty-six again--apparently they're keyed into the monsters in his skin--but he knows better than to think that's an actual possibility. Temporary fix to a permanent problem.]

...I also doubt you'd like to hear about them. But thank you all the same.

[He'll be polite, since he technically offered the information to begin with. If she pries he might give her some horrific descriptions, though.]

Such a long time... And no way to fix it? T-That's...

[She sounds... not quite piteous, but surely upset, at the very least.]

But, if you feel comfortable talking about them... I'd be glad to lend an ear. I'll listen to anything you have to say.

[Seriously. She's good at that. Even if she has no idea what sort of nightmares Vincent actually has.]

Don't dream? How do you know you just don't remember your dreams upon waking up?

[That's terrible!]

Because that's not how my brain organizes and reinforces memory.

Reinforces..?

I don't understand. If you sleep, then how do you know what goes on in your mind? You're asleep.

A little. Sometimes I think of Palutena, and the other angels.

The rest of my dreams are pretty ordinary dreams.
