i saw beck last night at the lincoln theater. really really beautiful venue -- apparently ella fitzgerald and duke ellington have both played there. this show was two and a half hours of moments to be reckoned with. he played piano, acoustic guitar, and keyboard. there was a short bout with a synthesizer he introduced as "roland". he joked on axel rose in falsetto. there was a lot of sitting on a stool with a foot rest, guitar in hand. i felt like i was watching something legendary. or something that would be -- and knew it (impeccably dressed in rust-colored cords, and pink dress shirt half-tucked-in, and a denim blazer. hot damn). he covered the velvet underground's 'sunday morning' for his *first* encore. my mom used to sing that to me, i cried. i left unsure of whether he was real or just a warm energy that sat with us and kept us calm for one evening of our stupid lives. overall, wonderfulwonderful evening.
