G. Love & Special Sauce is the best. Hampton Beach on a summer friday night was a little bizarre for me, and it wasn't like anything I expected, but it was an amazing, memorable show.
Three rather important things occurred to me that night:
1. I don't ever want to live in a city bigger than Portland.
2. I don't go to shows "for the music" often enough.
3. I really do have a solid top 5 (although they are really just en masse after Rustic: Ani D, Elliott Smith, G. Love and Radiohead)
It took some effort in that huge, unfamiliar place, but I finally met up with Kate and her crowd after the first band. There was seriously at least an hour before GLaSS took the stage. But when they started, I parted ways and found my way to the front, although waaay on the left. What's a G. Love show if I can't see his feet? It just adds to the effect of watching a truly great musician perform. And good lord, when they just jam and he plays harmonica...♥♥♥! :)
Yeah. I love them. The show made me so happy. But this is the first time I didn't hang around to meet them afterwards. Hampton Beach was too creepy/sketchy-looking.
