Where were you when...

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
Well, that was about 20 years before I was born, so I obviously wasn't around for that one.

2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I wasn't around for this one either, although it's getting closer to my birth.

3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
I was almost three years old then. I don't remember anything from back then.

4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
I was six years old and started primary school, where I met my best friends. As for the earthquake, well, I can say that I have a bad memory and don't remember it either.

5. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989)
I know I should probably remember this, but I don't. When you're six years old, you tend to not care about politics half way around the world.

6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
I would be almost eight years old then, in third grade. I was too preoccupied with my first crush to care about this. I probably knew about it at the time, but I don't remember it now. Boy, I'm starting to feel kinda stupid now remembering all these things.

7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
I definitely remember seeing this! I remember sitting at home in front of the TV. And I think we watched parts of the trial too, but not too sure about it.

8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
I was home for this, and I remember seeing it on TV. It might've interrupted "The Price Is Right", but I'm not too sure. I could be just making that up.

9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
I believe it was a Saturday night. I was watching Saturday Night Live (hence it was a Saturday night in my memory), and I was in my parents' room. Then I switched the TV to MSNBC or one of those 24-hour news channels, and that's when I found out about the accident.

10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
Ha, I don't remember where I was exactly, but I remember talking about it countlessly in school. I was so sick of hearing about all the recounts and what not. I was glad when it was over with, but definitely not glad that he was our president.

11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
Was that the one near Seattle? If not, I have no idea. But I remember there was one near Seattle and I read about it online at MSNBC.

12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
I don't think I can ever forget that day. It was Tuesday morning, and I had class at 10:05. I was going to go brush my teeth when I passed by one Vanessa's (one of my suitemate) room. She had the TV on CNN and the first plane had already crashed. I don't remember if I was there when the second plane crashed, although time-wise, I probably was. And then I went to class, where some people didn't even know about it (because they had an earlier class). And I remember this one girl who was joking and laughing about it, which got me really upset. When I went back to my suite, I found out classes were cancelled, and my whole suite sat in Vanessa's room most of the rest of the day watching the TV. I remember trying to call two of my friends at NYU, and the phone lines were all tied up. I had trouble getting in touch with one of them, who was at the hospital donating blood. I was so scared.
