The sun was halfway down now, the sky a veritable purple hue and even a pinch of green; the Risian atmosphere would do that. Not that Pavel was really noticing, curling around himself with his knees against his chest, trying to maintain some sort of self security.
Harold...
He was confused. Terrified, even horrified, and a little violated at the

They'd get to that.
A smile playing on his lips, Hikaru left a note for Pavel (Went for a walk. Back soon. Love you.) and wandered from the hotel, along the streets, watching the sunset, until he came to a park ( ... )

дерьмо. It had to be Hikaru. It had to be Hikaru of all people to find him here; vulnerable and still shaken and with no excuses on hand.
He had no clue what to say. 'Hello I lied to you but only a little bit also I met your counterpart and he forced himself on me?' It was ridiculous.
Christ, Pavel's head was hurting and he couldn't think straight. Harold. Hikaru. Harold. Hikaru. Pavel. Harold. Hikaru.
The partial truth, he settled. It was easier than he made it out to be. "It is finished." Pavel muttered. "I only need a few more treatments, they said."

Molecule H is bonded with Molecule H2, forming Compound H-H2. Molecule P collides with Compound H-H2, breaking the link and forming a covalent bond with Molecule H. Molecule H2 is unstable and cannot sustain itself without Molecule H thus causing a chain reaction of--
Pavel couldn't take the guilt anymore. He really didn't need the accusations from both sides, as minor and as truthful as Hikaru's were.
He tucked his head in his knees again, arms wrapped around in a sitting fetal position, gripping the PADD like a lifeline and pretending as if the world around him was a simple, spacial vaccum; a black void. No words came to his mouth except maybe a choke.

"Christ, Pavel, what's going on?" Hikaru sat on the bench beside Pavel and put one arm around him, then used the other to lift Pavel's chin.
"What happened? Something with the doctors?" It was his only guess--his mind was racing, but he couldn't come up with anything else.

But here he was, throwing his arms around Hikaru like he was the last man on earth, burying his cheek against the helmsman's chest and clinging tightly.
"No-- It-- Not them--бог...I love you."
And that was it. He wasn't sobbing hysterically, or anything of the sort. On the contrary, Pavel was barely making a sound at all save for light, strained breathing. But his cheeks felt damp, somehow.

"I love you, too," he said against Pavel's hair, then lifted his face and wiped tears away with his thumb. "Baby, you have to tell me what's wrong." And there he went with the pet names again. Christ.
He held Pavel close. It was awkward on the little park bench, but he did it anyway. "Tell me," he said, his tone halfway between caring and stern.

But no, no and god, he kicked himself because he was actually crying without realizing it. He couldn't tell him, he had to tell him, he couldn't ( ... )

He didn't realize Pavel was reaching for the device in his ear until it was almost too late. He jerked his hand up and caught Pavel's, shaking his head.
"Seriously, don't touch that," he said, and his voice was cold. "Tell me what the fuck happened to upset you like this, Pavel. Tell me now." He wasn't going to listen to silence any longer.

He felt a rush of momentary adrenaline. "Only if you will tell me why you wear this strange device." Pavel's mouth tightened, eyes locked on Hikaru. His face was probably wet, but there were no more tears, not anymore.

"Is this a game to you, Pavel?" he finally asked. "I find you miserable on a fucking park bench and you want to know why I've got this thing in my ear?" He stood and paced a few feet away, then back, standing over Pavel.
"Yeah, I'll tell you, but this is hardly the time." He shook his head, sympathy totally overridden by anger and frustration and fear. Why the hell wouldn't Pavel just tell him what had happened?
"Last chance," he said simply.

"No. нет, this is not a game." He eyed Hikaru carefully, strongly, but with a mixture of hidden apology and worry. Pavel didn't move from the bench, and he fought the urge to wipe his itching cheeks of remnant tears. He had to play his cards right, there was something he needed to know...
"I am serious, Hikaru." Pavel swallowed. "An answer for an answer."

"Fine. This," he snapped, gesturing to McCoy's device, "Is so that I can get Harold out of my head for a little while. Long enough to--forget it. It's so I can concentrate on you." He crossed his arms over his chest again. "Your turn."

Pavel audibly released the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. A wry, twisted smile touched his lips momentarily and he choked a bit. He was relieved. Truly, deeply relieved that Hikaru hadn't, though he had no reason to even suspect it would be the case, lied to him. Pavel had clarity; he wanted honesty, nothing more. An understanding, though tough as it was, so that there could be no assumptions and no spontaneous, stupid acts. Not like what had happened with Harold.
His turn. He swallowed. "My appointment was good, truly." Pavel started to say. "The nurse was kind and thorough, I will only need a few more treatments, like I hawe said."
"But this," Another deep breath, and Pavel lifted up the PADD in his hand to his eyelevel, showing it to Hikaru's furious eyes before placing it softly on the wood of the bench in front of him without a sound. "This is Mr. Lee's. The one he brought with him on shoreleave."
Then he waited for Hikaru to put two and two together.

He set his jaw and grabbed the PADD from the bench.
"So. Did you really see the doctor, or did you just come here to rendezvous with Harold?"
He would kill them. He would kill them both. With his sword. But first he needed to stay calm and get some answers.

Pavel swung his legs over the bench, facing towards the shore, and hunched his shoulders, trying to maintain his overall security. "I wanted to know why you and Mr. Lee and Doctor McCoy were fighting in sickbay." He admitted.
