Peepers Peeping and other noises

Peepers were definitely peeping Friday.  I don't know if there were echoes or if there really were that many of them but it sounded like thousands of frogs.  Of course, I could have enjoyed it more if there hadn't been a truck tailgating me at the time.  Stupid truck.

Watched Inherit the Wind on Saturday with my parents.  Apart from being a good movie (based on the 1926 Scopes Monkey trial) it's got some great zingers: "Then you, sir, must be a man of God!"  "No no no, of ulcers."       "I may be rancid butter but I'm on your side of the bread."  And the conversations we had concerning it ranged from evolution (duh) to advertising men's underwear.   . . . The way THAT part came up was because at one point you could see the outline of a sleeved undershirt through one of the character's shirtsleeves.  My mom commented that if it really had been over 100 degrees he would have been wearing an "athletic undershirt."

Me: You mean one of the ribbed, sleeveless things?
Mom: Yes.
Me: They're called wife-beaters, you know.
(Dad laughs in the background)
Mom: *scoffing noise*
Me: What?  They are!
Mom: I know they are but J.C. Penney's can't exactly put "wife-beaters" in their catalogs, now can they?
(Dad laughs even harder)

On an unrelated note, I received my new WI license.  I hate it.  I really really really hate it.  I thought nothing could be worse than my first driver's license picture; obviously I was wrong.  It's hideous and no, I will NOT be posting a sample of it.  I can't wait until 2012 when I can get a new picture taken.

Speaking of being wrong, I also thought the so-called Yooper Loop in Houghton couldn't be worse than it already was but that was before I had to drive it with construction.  The city, in its almighty wisdom, has decided to repave the downtown with brick.  To do this, they must reroute traffic all over creation, including turning previously one-way streets into two-way, blocking off parts of the bridge, and preventing customers from getting to some stores (at the moment, that includes the DT Bar, ironically enough.)  This will continue into November.  Because clearly the downtown doesn't have enough trouble getting customers when the road leading from the bridge directs traffic immediately towards the malls along the city limits rather than through the city.  To say nothing of being a royal pain in the butt to manuever.
