Hello, Miss. Forgive my intrusion. My name is Miles Edgeworth. Might I inquire what legal care your friend, Mr. Saxon, might require? I'll admit now, rather than misleading you, I am a prosecutor, but I have experience with criminal defense.

Mr. Saxon has not been convicted of any crime thus far which makes it difficult to determine what sort of legal care he'll require. However I know an excellent defense attorney shall it be necessary. I do thank you for your interest.

Well, I'm certain he has not. If he had been convicted, there would be little use for my presence.

I do appreciate your persistence, Mr. Edgeworth. It's an admirable quality and quite a useful one. However regardless of Mr. Saxon's future, charged, released or convicted I've already assured you that there is little use for your presence. It's nothing personal of course. I've only just met you but that is the point. I'd rather entrust Mr. Saxon's fate to someone I know.

From what I have ascertained, Miss, Mr. Saxon has decided his own fate. As to your personal preference, I'm quite satisfied in your seeking his defense elsewhere. I would far prefer prosecution.

[OOC: and now you have me curious. Who's Inara talking about?]

From what I have ascertained that has yet to be determined.

[ooc: It's a surprise :D]

Indeed.

[OOC; I was serious, though. I'd like to know.]

It is the basis of a case, isn't it? That open ended fate that hangs in the balance but then I'm not a lawyer. I merely organize things.

The basics of any case are proof of means, motive, and opportunity.

Basis, not basics. Very slight difference but basis can be defined as the fundamental principle behind something. Basics tend to be the fundamental parts. While yes, what I do know of law which we've already defined as very little, that the basics of a case are indeed proof of means, motive and opportunity, I still believe the fundamental principle behind the idea of a fair and just trial is to decide the fate of someone who's fate has not already been decided.

Begging your pardon, Miss, but are we speaking of the basis of a trial or the basis of a case. A trial is used, yes, to determine a person's fate. A case is used to prove they are guilty of a crime.

Clearly I was under the impression we were talking about both as indicated by my previous comment.

Mmm.

Tell me, Miss, do you believe Mr. Saxon is guilty?

I believe I'm neither qualified nor informed enough to make that decision. What I do know is Mr. Saxon is very ill and he's been quite kind to me in the past.

I'm didn't ask for your qualified judgment, Ms. Serra. I asked for your opinion.

There's not enough information held within that question to form an opinion. Do I think Mr. Saxon is guilty of being ridiculously charming? Absolutely. Do I think he's guilty of being ill? Definitely. Do I think he's guilty of being a fantastic kisser? Well thanks to a curse, yes I do. Do I think he's guilty of enjoying witty conversation and a good cup of tea? Naturally.

Beyond those sorts of things, I can't and won't speculate. The public, and that does include me, isn't aware of what he was arrested for. I can't imagine him being guilty of anything that would get him arrested beyond loitering, even when he's ill. When the police release more information about why Mr. Saxon is being held in their custody, I will then be happy to give you an informed opinion.
