The beauty of compassionate serving...

These past couple Wednesdays I've been at a local school district working with a school nurse for my required community hours for my nursing class. It was a fantastic experience and I loved seeing what the nurse's roles were as well as helping her give medications, take heights and weights, and *eek!* check for lice!
One particular moment that stays in my mind and, I hope, in my heart was watching another nurse at the school give one-on-one care to her little student. The student was a preschooler with mental and physical handicaps and required feedings through a stomach tube. The nurse was his personal caregiver for several days a week and the bond between them was amazing. As I watched the LPN sing to the boy, ruffle his hair, and spoil him immensely, my heart was touched in a way that I pray I won't forget. It made me realize how precious life truly is-- how precious every single person is because he or she is a creation of our good God. Every life deserves to be cherished. God bless the nurse for her unspoken lesson to me in compassion and respect for life.
