Yes, I actually couldn't help laughing a bit as I cried from stress today on the way home from school. What a day. It honestly should win a ribbon for one of the worst days. After a while, it was almost funny-- hence my contradicting emotions during the drive.
Well...it all started when I first found out someone in my nursing class had chosen the topic I wanted for our health fair project. I know that seems like it wouldn't be a huge deal, but it was very much so for me because I had five ideas for the topic (Skin Cancer Prevention) right off my head and it seemed like a fun and somewhat simple topic to choose. Despite my attempts at signing up early, in an evil moment (okay, not really) while I was gone, two other classmates signed up for the Skin topic. Grrrrr... The day continued. We spent four loooong hours this morning in discussion and group role playing on communication techniques. Now I concede that they are useful-- but not to taking four hours to go over them! Next, the instructor thought it appropriate to schedule a math test from 12:00 to 1:00-- normally my lunch hour. Sorry, tummy, we need to work out how many mL to put in the syringe for the patient's medication. This particular test had 20 questions and had to be passed at a 95%. Not too hard...I know this stuff pretty well...um-hm...I got a 90%. Not a big deal, I just need to spend the time next Tuesday over lunch break re-taking it (don't tell tummy).
We're not finished. I next went to my microbiology class...what a joke. I have never seen so much busywork crammed into one class. We can get credit for writing a poem on microbiology. Sounds pretty easy, but he was kind enough to make sure we would not be wanting for projects; there are more than enough for the semester. I was very tired by this time of day and disappointed about both the health fair topic and the math score. I picked up my bookbag, anxious for class to be over, and felt aching, shooting pain in my back. Too many books. This would not do. I went down to rent a locker for the semester and they sent me on a wild goose chase to four different stops...and then by the end of the day I decided I didn't need a locker since I wouldn't normally have this many books.
Next I traveled to the bookstore to pick up a lab book for microbiology (yes, cheapy me wanted to see if I could get along without it. Negative, ma'am.) Found the book, sauntered up to the checkout and slipped out mom's credit card. Oh, you won't take credit cards from parents unless there is written permission? That's okay, I can use my debit card (I'm quite sure it has a bit over $100 on it at the moment). I trot up to my next class and decide to look at my checkbook and see what my new balance will be. The book I purchased was $90 and lo and behold-- my old balance was $89.87. So, although my class would begin in fifteen minutes, I accomplished the feat of running out to my car to call mom on the 'emergency cell phone', returning the book, and then re-purchasing it after my mom called with permission to use her credit card.
To be continued tomorrow...because yes, there were a few more happenings. ;-)
